    Hi guys,

does anyone a have clue (more than I do) what the car originally came with? Cortez Gold, white vinyl top, saddle interior?

What about the vinyl top, did I decode it right, was it originally white (for it has a black on now)?

    White it was.

    Cortez Gold is correct.

Vinyl top codes for 1971 are:

    A - White
    B - Black
    E - Sandalwood
    F - Dark Brown
    G - Dark Green

It is odd seeing a trim tag without the manufacturers statement embossed.

Wanna see some more funky stuff? Here`s an import tag from GM Suisse(they had a factory near Bern for about 40 years). The car is given a certain number called "Typennummer" in that case "0330-20". This classifies the car (for the swiss market and motor vehicle control) as GS 455. The official term for the 350c.i. GS over here was actually "GS 350", not just "GS", Typennummer 0330-18.

And here it gets interesting with the car I got: classified via the Typennummer as GS 455, but sold new as GS 350( have the paperwork). I`ll meet the first owner in a few weeks and this might shed some light on the car`s history. For now, the originally intended 455 is, for the first time(?), (back) in the car.

Your top was White. I'd bet on that Jim.

Hey Korrie, tried to search for Pictures of cortez gold exterior and white vinyl with saddle interior...kind of weird for my taste. Did decode it like that as well though.

Sorry, but "B" was Black in 1971. Which flavor of crow would you like?

A is for white and B is for Black on every GM car of the day I have ever seen or owned. Just piling on.:bglasses:

So, it was cortez gold, saddle buckets and black vinyl(instead of white, as I assumed), right?

Jim and all the others, thanks a lot. So when time comes to do a repaint, I might consider going back to cortez gold, all other things are still on the car.

Cortez Gold is a nice color. I would go back to it. Cortez is my favorite Conquistador as well.:Smarty:
