This car sold at the Dallas Mecum sale a few months ago for $56K and is now to be sold at BJ Scottsdale. It'll be interesting to see what it brings there. There's also a yellow one and at least one "recreation".

Looks like it was freshened up under the hood and detailed since it was bought at Mecum Dallas.

Sold for $127K, not counting buyers premium! I'm going to Mecum Dallas next year for a bargain!

Tidy profit for someone. It’s easier to make money if you have money.

I saw the car at both auctions and spoke to the seller at BJ. He ended up removing and detailing the engine/bay, and also repainted/striped the car after he bought it in Dallas. It looked great and may have set a new sale price record for a non-Stage 1 Apollo White car.

    Were you at BJ, James?

Yes, but just for a few hours. I went out to Phoenix to look at a street/strip car last weekend and stopped by to look at the BJ cars while there.

Did you guys see the red 70 stage 4 speed car, drum brakes with skylark steering wheel. No where did it say in writing it was a matching drive train car but Craig Jackson said it was on the mic. I don’t think the owner was in the house

Yes, I saw it and looked for the block stampings but could not get a good look as there was surface rust on the deck surface in both areas. It was roped off and the passenger side was not accessible so I couldn't look for trans stamping.

Do you know what it sold for? The red 70 stage1?

I think the hammer price was $150k.

I thought for '70 that ws the correct steering wheel?

Sold for $170,500 with commission, also + sales tax if an in state buyer. It seemed like the crowd had thinned a bit, and the enthusiasm had left the room for even an hour earlier. The write up was terrible, so it didn't build any excitement for the car. Just MHO, of course.

The hammerheads on velocity were more excited about the aluminum front drums then the car they call it a GS 455 not once did they say it was a stage one what a joke. Just like today's media they don't want you to know the truth.

It's pretty simple, without proper pre auction promotion, these cars don't get the attention they deserve. They might have been lucky to get what they did, as it was treated like just a pretty red convertible. Mecum does a much better job of promoting rare cars, and I think their audience is better informed & educated on our type of cars. I believe that Mecum results are a better reflection of the true market. Until recently, Mecum reported prices did NOT include commission, but now they do. Had they included commission on the two Stage 1 four speed converts I sold in the last few years, they would have reported $187 for the red/white NOM car, and $203.5 for the Gulfstream Blue/white bench car, better known as "Don's car", LOL

Correct - The "Deluxe" wheel ad on this car was Std. on GS 455, optional on GS 350. Additionally, the "Rim Blow" and "Rallye" steering wheels were optional on both.

I’m glad you guys chimed in, the poster that was with the car did not say it was a numbers matching drive train, maybe the seller assumed everyone would know but it wasn’t in writing anywhere. This is a problem with the salon cars, the owners are nowhere around and the cars are roped off? It’s kind of late to be asking questions when it’s on stage.

Usually, when "numbers matching" info is not listed in an ad or at an auction, it's because it is not numbers matching or it has been re-stamped. Based on what I saw with my own eyes, the Fire Red Stage 1 car falls into that category.

I'm just glad they're starting to get good money again for these cars. We were the real red-headed step children for quite a while.

You can finally sink some money into a car again to restore and not be assured of taking a financial bath.
