Can anyone help me out with sourcing armrests for my 70 GS. I've looked online, but I'm not sure what the stock color combo was with these. It appears to be black, but I wanted to ask before making any orders. If it helps, interior trim code is: 179 Thank You
Those are the "long base" ones (I think around 16" long) and are very hard to find of what I know... I'm surprised that as many things for our GS/Skylark cars that are being reproduced that no one has yet to make these!? A lot of people would like to have a nice set, I'm sure. And for that car in your picture they should be brown to match the interior/door panels from what I remember..although I've never owned a brown interior on any of my Buicks. Eric / Oregon
It does look black. It should not be black. Paint it the correct color and you are done. Others can help with determining the correct color and where to get it. If you use the right products/paint it outta last for a long Long time. Be sure to clean it/ prep It properly before priming and painting it.
As long as yours are not flaking or gouged up I would suggest you redye them. They should be brown to match your interior.
New ones are available, but I think black is the only color. New pads are available in different colors, but the way they make the pad is not the greatest. You can also look up 67-70 Impala/Caprice,and 68 Cutlass/442 for this longer style arm rest.
Thanks, will take a look at them. Next step is finding the plastic part or painting it the correct color. Any body know what the correct color should be for the plastic piece? Thank You
Go to the TCPGlobal website, select the automotive paint, then the auto color library (on the right), select the era, then year. The chip chart will come up (page 1); to the left is page 2, the paint chart for interior trim. match your trim code from the listing, and voila, there you have it. Note that there are two styles of paint : flat and semi-gloss. http://images.tcpglobal.com/chips/1970-Buick-pg02.jpg?linkingParam={"_ga":"GA1.2.1433806923.1514052359"}&_ga=2.87327320.1946746873.1514052359-1433806923.1514052359 This will be old-school lacquer paint, but your paint supplier can cross it over. By the way SEM does make some mighty fine trim paint, if (and that is a mighty large IF) the surface is properly prepared. There is a test procedure for determining the correct material and therefore the correct paint/dye/ method. Trim 179 is Ditzler 23320 semi-gloss, and Ditzler 23309 flat. But look for yourself; I may not have read those numbers correctly... Also, TCP carries SEM products, but they are available locally and online as well. Try tower APS paint in WI. They made my paint custom and it matched perfect. I have the dark saddle and they made it from a piece I sent in. They have my color on file. 800 779 6520 www.apstowerpaint.com
The problem I have,at least in my location,is that the paint store still has all the old books with the chips & colors, but the mix codes have been deleted. A few times, were were able to call DuPont and get some sort of cross-reference. A few mixes have been spot on from that info, while others were nowhere close.
