Beautiful set of 5 15x7 Skylark GS wheels restored by Steve Caruso. They are stamped with a "7.0" wheel code. The centers have the original satin chrome. These wheels are correct for all early 1970 GS's thru approx. mid January 1970. The code then changed to "WG". Condition is EXC+/NOS-. $2500.00 plus the ride. pics avail upon request. Thanks for looking.

Just talked to Steve. He said the wheels were so nice that he did not have to cut them apart. A big plus. He cleaned the back of the centers with naval jelly and clear coated them. Painted the welds with argent silver so they wont rust. polished all chrome and semi gloss paint on the spokes. Backspacing is 4 3/8". Date codes on all 5 same, 11-21-69.

Not inline Bob, what's the exact date on your wheels, my second week of March 70 stage one came with four 7.0's an one WG wheel all built month before car. Early March is when they switched over to WG wheels.

Thanks for the info on the switch over date. The fact that your car had a mix of 7.0 and WG wheels confirms early/mid March. Will pm you about date code.

Hi Jim, Long time no see. I bought these wheels out of Wisconsin some 20 yrs ago. The guys name was Dale. Bought a 71 GS NOS grille of him too. I wanna say he was a truck driver and died in a wreck shortly thereafter. Too bad he was a great guy.
No, different set. sent you a pm

I know a family in South Florida restoring an early 70 Saturn Yellow GSX (Dad bought new) and I need to be certain if these would be correct for his car.. . . so I sincerely hope he doesnt mind me asking but I've asked Duane to jump in on this conversation regarding 7.0 vs WG wheels.... Gotta know.

As I was invited to this party............

Originally the 14" & 15" 1970 model year wheels were stamped with their nominal sizes, ie 6.0 and 7.0 respectively.
In mid production these were changed to rim codes, with the 15" rims being 'WG"

The earliest "WG" coded rim I had documented had a rim date of 2/20/70. I believe Jason has an earlier one, but I don't remember the date.

I believe the earliest 70 GSX's were built in February, therefore some of these early cars may have come with the "7.0" designated wheels.

Bill Sales has the 7th produced GSX. Maybe he could read the wheel dates/designations off his rims. That car is very original, and probably has the original wheels on it.

If someone wanted the absolutely correct date coded wheels for his car, then it would be imperative to know the exact date the car was manufactured. You would also need to know the "lead time" involved between the wheels and the date of the body, to figure out the correct dates for the rims.

Hope this helps with the sale.
