Hi, a few questions. Are the 70 to 72 headlight bezels the same? If not, is there a way to restore pitted bezels where it looks nice? If not, do they repop them or am I stuck looking for NOS?

    Thanks.

No-- 70 and 72 bezels are not even close.

Yes--they can be restored. It costs more per pit because each pit must be filled by hand. So, start with the best cores that you can find.

Thanks. What do they fill the bezel pits with? Any restoration places that you recommend?

1970 Buick GS. Any ideas on cost. They are pretty pitted.

No way to know until you have them looked at. I would take Jim's advice and try to find a decent set to start with the cost will be far less. You can also post in the parts wanted area for a nice set or a NOS set.

The LH side NOS is harder to find than the RH side.

The issue with restoring (I.e. re-chroming) them is the chrome must be ground off so depending on who is doing that, the results can be great or not so much as oftentimes some of the crisp detail lost. People also often paint them instead so Depending on what you're building, the pitfalls (pun intended) of re-chroming or painting may or may not matter, but if so, NOS LH and/or complete sets are getting hard to come by.

I believe that silver solder is used to fill the drilled out pits.

Get better ones to start with. Really pitted ones will cost way more than if you find better cores.

I always painted 70pitted bezels body color gsx style. Much easier to maintain and looks nice.

Like Ryan’s-GSX said, R&D Finishing in Elizabethton TN. They did both of mine about a year ago. Thinking $350ish each. Mine are perfect! I was at the GS Nats looking at the concours cars when I noticed that the back side of the bezels can be seen when the hood is raised. I hadn’t thought of that until then. I called and asked if they’d started mine yet. They said no. I asked them to make the back side as nice as the front since it’s seen when hoods up. They did! They’re Amazing!! As advised, find the best pair of cores you can.
