As a long time step child guy.. IDK. In essence, it is a GS 400 4 speed that went to Motion and received a few bolt on parts. Did they throw in a 70 Stage 1 engine? A stage 2 engine? 12 bolt? Are there time slips indicating it was running 11's or 10's? In the Buick world, the car is cool... In the microcosm of the step child fans, is this car as cool as a 69 Stage 1? Stage 1 4 speed? 69 Stage 1 convertible? Stage 1 4 speed convertible?? Let's say one purchases the car, spends $75,000 to restore it, then is "forced" to liquidate, how much would the "Motion" connection bring? As Mark pointed out, the words "feel quite certain" is NOT a 100% guarantee... Anyway, it's a cool step child that does need to be restored. I wish the buyer good luck (Jimmy.. LOL).
I am planning on making the trip as well on Friday, looks like decent weather. Should be a interesting auction.
It very likely could be a Motion modified car. But going on the memory of an old man, Mr Rosen, for authenticity wouldnt give me a lot of bidding confidence. Knowing how most shops like this operate, Mr Rosen probably sat back in his office and didnt spend much time out on the shop floor. So his memory would be very vauge at best. Knowing the Motion decals, wheels, slapper bars, air cleaners etc were available over the counter, heck anyone could have added them in their driveway in 1972. Like with the GSX, Im not fully convinced of either. That said, yes I would love to have it!
Four of us just spent the last 2 days getting all the parts together for the car. I took well over 180 pics of the parts/car and will hopefully be able to figure out how to post them here. There were so many parts for the chassis that were either powder coated, replated, rebuilt, or new that it is basically an assembly job. There was new exhaust, Powder coated MT long tube headers/collectors, NOS Thrush mufflers, new fuel/brake lines, new ball joints, springs, shocks, front end suspension kit, rear axle rebuilt and painted, trans rebuilt, heads done, intake & scatter shield powder coated, as well as the front & rear upper/lower control arms, and the Lakewood "Yellow" traction bars, the carb plated/rebuilt, NOS "Fly-Eye" air cleaner,..................the list goes on and on. I took pics of the floor/trunk pans/ rear quarters, and trunk drops, and basically saw no damage. He has all new weather stripping, seat covers, and we found at least 1 complete set of 69 pot metal vinyl top corners that I got from California years ago. The car also comes with a pair of extremely nice front fenders that he bought out of Arizona. And has a 69 core support from out west, and it's powder coated and ready for install. Duane
