I think out of all the A-bodies in 68-69, Olds really had it down the best. The flares over the wheelwheels are awesome on the Cutlasses and 442s of that generation. https://kpr.craigslist.org/cto/d/eltopia-1968-oldsmobile-442/7090321734.html 1968 Oldsmobile 442 - $12000 (Pasco) image 4 of 12 © craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap (google map) 1968 Oldsmobile fuel: gas title status: clean transmission: automatic 1968 Oldsmobile 442 Big block matching number motor automatic transmission AC The car was bought locally in Yakima Washington In 1968 Runs and drives good Does need some cosmetic work Come check it out $12,000 If you have any questions please call 509-820-5175
Price seems a bit low, no? Though when I look closely at the pictures I see a lot of little issues so maybe not.
They need to lose the body side moldings, they look terrible. Will probably take the paint with it when removed. A buddy of mine had one back in the day. I still have the scars on the back of my head from the low hanging hood latch.
I had one buddy with a '70 Cougar and another with a '71 Cougar. Those things had serious "codpieces".
Your buddy must have had a '69 (or a '70). The '68 doesn't have the hanging center tooth. I agree on the side moldings, it's the most distinctive and detracting part of the car.
Hey, now, dammit Mike, don't go getting Shawn on me, too............. Just remember, we do have 5 or 6 Buicks in the immediate family. I'll get my '61 Buick someday after I get this Cadillac thing hammered out.
The Buick mafia is watching you Lucas. Betta watch ya step.... Funny, I almost went that route. Before I bought my green car at 15, I had arranged a deal to buy a friends dads 72 Cutlass. Nice solid car. I walked to his house with the agreed upon $2300 cash in my pocket only to find when I got there, someone had offered him $2500 and he agreed. He said If I could match them it was mine, but I had every last dime and then some in my pocket so $200 might as well have been $200,000. Had I bought that car, I'd likely be an Olds nut today (I do still really like them though). Ah, the butterfly effect.
Oh, I'm quite familiar with the Olds' in question. For sure a 1968. Look at the safety latch hanging down and also how low the hood looks open. My scars come from the safety latch. That was as wide as it would go. I know '69's had the same issue, but not because of the low hanging hood but the "tongue" hanging down up front.
I don't know who installed that molding but they hung. The bad is that type molding is riveted so no removing it without bodywork & paint.
Actually I have heard the 68s are worse for head scars because they have that hood latch hook that hangs down in the middle.
Paid the original owner $2000 in '81...Sold it for $2500 in '85. An Olds expert said I could find one almost as nice for a hair under $40,000....
Agreed 69 is much better. Beefier grill and I like the tail lights better. I have 68 and 69 cutlass, dont worry fellas I also have a 69 gs 400 and a 68 400 project
Glad that 442 is not local. I would buy it. It would be in my yard already. Real nice car and enjoy as is.
