Were their options for transmissions for 1967 'Larks? I assumed mine was a th400 but it rained and I didn't have a chance to crawl under there. What kind of tranny is it?

nothing like a dynaflow, and they were good lil transmissions..
just no one particuly wants a 2 speed transmission and the ones that do use the shitty powerglide....big dummies

  6. the torque converter is very desireable.

The variable pitch torque converter is switchable between a standard low stall speed, and a performance hi-stall speed. It's wired the the gas pedal linkage, but can be connected to a simple toggle switch, so you can select either mode.
It was only available for a few years.
It's a fun feature. Give it a try before you decide to take it out.

That sounds pretty cool. Since it's a "turbine" I thought it might be similar to the twin and tripple turbine dynaflows. Thanks guys

I put a TH400 short tail in my wife's 67 Skylark. It was an easy swap. The holes in the frame were already there; just slide the crossmember back to match the holes and shorten the driveshaft the same distance as the hole spacing change.
You would need a switch pitch trans to use the desireable 300 converter you have. If you cant find a sp tranny, just use any short tail TH400 and a standard converter. Do not throw away the 300 converter; sell it on v8buick.
The 400 trans added a LOT of pep to that car. It drove like a dream at all speeds with the 2.56 posi rear.

Any 66 without a vp was probably changed. Never saw a 65-67 Buick that come from the factory without one. Some were changed due to mechanics who didn't want to, or know how to, repair the vp type.

    300 converters are 12". 400 is 13".

I've got a 66 ST400 v/p with converter that I'll trade for the ST300 and converter. I building a street rod and don't need a ST400 for that light weight of a body. Send me a PM eeraner@yahoo.com

That's a hell of a good offer. Is it the Nailhead bellhousing or the BOP pattern?

I'm betting you are running a Nailhead in your Rod....? I think the '66 BOP was only available in the LeSabre 400, so that is a rare trans!
