1967 Buick GS400

For sale is my Gold Mist 1967 Buick GS400. It is an unrestored car and I have put some work into it over the past year to make it a complete, running and driving car. It has the original 2.93 limited slip rear as well as the original ST400 transmission. The engine is a 1972 Buick 455 which sent this car down the 1/4 mile in 14.1 at 96mph back in May.

This car is 99% complete and ready to either restore or drive as is. There is some rust, which is isolated to the trunk floor, the bottom of the driver side quarter panel and battery tray area of core support. This car is surprisingly solid otherwise .

The currently installed engine does have issues. During my last oil change I found some ferrous metal in the oil. It has run fine since it was installed but obviously it will need further inspection to determine what is going on inside. I suspect it to be cam/lifter related. When I bought the engine I checked the bearings and rebuilt the oil pump and saw no signs for concern.

I do have the original 400 from this car, although it was totally seized. I disassembled it and as long as the block checks fine for cracks it can certainly be rebuilt.

I made a 30 minute trip in the car last week to have a minor issue with the headliner addressed. It ran and drove great. It really is surprising how nice this car drives, especially considering it has been sitting for the last couple decades.

I have gone through all the safety critical items of the car. I replaced all the brake hoses and any leaking wheel cylinders. This thing stops great for a power drum car.

At some point when I have time I will start investigating the engine issue, there is no knocking and oil pressure is great.

Some of the recent things I have done with the car were to install an original harrison radiator with freshly recored with a 4 row unit, a 7027146 Quadrajet rebuilt by Quadrajet Power, I have gone through and repaired the power windows, and installed a rebuilt floor shift tilt steering column.

The interior of this car is original except for the new carpet and headliner. The only things this car is missing is the plastic antenna nut and the originally installed am/fm radio. I have a core am radio that could be restored and used instead.

I hope I am not too far off base on the pricing, I have a bit more into this car as tracking down some of the missing trim and original parts adds up fast on a 67 GS.

 

I love it. I hope it sells for you. If I had the cash I'd jump on it so fast you'd think it was getting mugged.

 

Thanks! I know I will instantly regret selling this car. It really is a fun car and I think the hardest choice is whether to enjoy it as is or do a complete restoration.

If I kept the car I would do the rust repair, put a black vinyl top back on and drive the heck out of it for a few years.

 

Don't do it. You put so much time and effort into it.

 

I was just accepted for a transfer to Indianapolis for work. So while I will still have the Buick up for sale for now, the fact that my garage will be at home instead of 40 minutes away will surely improve my motivation.

I think the coolest part of this car is the fact it hasn't been modified or shoddily repaired. It is far from a preserved car but it has weathered well over the years considering it was probably never kept in a garage.

 

I have just finished moving to Indianapolis. The Buick is in my garage in New York still. I am unsure if I want to drive it to Indy or transport it but if anyone along the route is interested in seeing the car let me know.

 

Bump. Price lowered to $10,000. I would like to try and sell the car before I have to move it.

 

I did a few things to the 67 today. I swapped over to a 7 blade clutch fan, changed the oil and installed a correct 67 AM radio. The oil looked better than the last time I changed it but I would still consider the engine currently installed as due for a refresh. It runs great though and makes good oil pressure with no noise. I am still leaning towards the issue being cam/lifter related.

Everytime I drive this car I have to stop and think about selling it. It just drives way too nice. I haven't touched a single part of the suspension or steering on this car (other than swap in a Carhex quick ratio box) and it still drives solid. No rattles, no excessive steering play. It is a great cruiser.

I have decided I will drive it to Indy next week. It will give me time to think about what I want to do with the car. I have a feeling I will end up wanting to keep it.

I made it to Indy yesterday afternoon. It was an interesting drive but I made it 800 miles without any breakdowns.
