I have searched and searched and I cannot seem to find what people are using for the 66 door panels, other years retainers are round and OPGI carries them. The 66 and below have the square plastic retainers. Is there a source or what is being used as a replacement?

    Thank you

I am not quite sure what you are asking for.

I thought originally they used a white oval plastic insert with a thin slot "cut" into it, so the "nail" on the door panel would push into the slot and hold the panel to the door.

When I made the 65 GS door panels, I changed the door panels to use the 68-72 style clips, and would supply both the clips and the "more open" style oval plastic inserts. Otherwise there was no way to install the door panels on the doors/rear quarters.

You need to see how your door panels are made, and find out who made them..................................and see if they were changed over to the style clip that I used.

I don't see how a manufacturer could make a panel that could not be installed on a car. Maybe there was an installation kit (of these clips/retainers) that you needed to purchase with the door panels?

Honestly I did not read any of the ads, sorry. Just trying to show some inserts which were not round.
It the OP wants accurate help he should supply pictures of what he has, on the door panel and on the door, so someone can help him find replacements.
    Merry Christmas to All!!

That link shows pictures of both styles, but they are selling the ones with the smaller slot, which were the original style that used the "nails" in the door panels.

Those are the ones thank you for the link Mike!!

I know it is helpful to give pictures ect of what one is looking for although very difficult to post pictures of something someone does not have. Door panels in these years are very similar in how they attach for most all of GM's they just have different variances or styles of retainers. To those people that are familiar with the early style door panel retainers I figured my request was simple. I was unable to locate this specific style at any of the parts places yet it appears they are still made as the ebay link has them.

The only ones I could find were the later model round retainers, I generally only use Legendary products on my restorations unless I am doing a custom interior where as I make the panels myself. even then I attempt to use factory style retainers/mounting hardware as to avoid altering the actual door if possible. In this case the Legendary products are close enough to orig that is the route I went. Legendary only appears to sell the later model round inserts and rather than altering my actual door I thought it best to reach out and see if someone happen to know where to find the correct ones, or possibly what people are using if they are no longer made.

In the future I will attempt to take a picture of something I do not have to please those that feel it is the only way to communicate what one is looking for.

    Thank you for the link.
