1966 Gran Sport- project car- $7,500

  1. For Sale- 1966 Buick Gran Sport- Thin Pillar Coupe

The car is originally silver with a black painted top. The 401 Nailhead and 2 speed Super Turbine 300 automatic transmission are both numbers matching to the car.

The car is 1 of 1835

The car was last on the road in 1983 according to the license plate registration decal. The car was in a field in Carson City Nevada and brought to Massachusetts in 2009. The car was started and driven in 2009 for the first time in 26 years. After driving the car for a few miles, the car was disassembled and a frame off restoration was started. Hundreds of photos of the car while being disassembled are available.

The entire chassis has been sandblasted, primed, painted, detailed and assembled as a roller. The remaining uninstalled parts for the chassis will be included in the purchase. The parts are still new in the box. AMK fasteners were used throughout, and all parts are Moog or other name brands and were purchased through Rockauto.

New brake and fuel lines and body mounts from Inline Tube are installed on the frame, the underside of the body was primed, painted and placed on the frame.

The body has been stripped to bare metal and is currently coated with a zinc phosphate coating. The car has rot in the quarters, trunk, package tray, lower windshield/dashboard and a small spot at the bottom of one fender. I was able to source the following and they will be provided with the car: DS and PS rear quarters cut from a 4-door car, entire dash/cowl, cut from a California car, and a package tray from a Texas car.

The core support, inner fenders, and all four GS specific steel wheels have been sandblasted and are included. The core support has some rot, so I cut one out of a parts car and it too is included.

The following aftermarket sheet metal parts are also included with the sale: reproduction outer rockers, three piece trunk floor, trunk braces, dash repair channel, and filler panel between deck lid and rear window

The car came with hubcaps originally, not rally wheels. I was able to find some that were taken off a car in the early 70’s and they will be included in the sale. I’ve been collecting 1966-69 specific 14” Buick rally wheels and any I have will be included as well.

The engine has been rebuilt by a reputable Buick engine builder and bored .030 over using custom forged AutoTec pistons in 2014. The engine has never been fired and is in dry storage.

The piston specification sheet is included. The camshaft is the TA25. I had a Romac SFI balancer installed in lieu of the factory two-piece rubber unit. The factory point distributor was recurved and converted to HEI by Tom Telesco. The Carter 3921S factory carburetor was rebuilt by Tom Telesco and has been run on another 401 engine. All receipts for the engine build and parts are included.

The transmission has been rebuilt, detailed and upgraded to include Alto red clutches. The transmission has not been installed and is sitting in dry storage.

The following parts are included with the sale:

    NOS tail light lenses

    NOS directional lenses

    Reproduction Steering Wheel

    Near perfect dash pad

    NOS antenna bezel and nut

Every part that has been taken off the car has been bagged and tagged and will be included with the sale.

My wife and I just had our second child and with two children under the age of three, I no longer have the time to complete the project. I can provide receipts along with the car totaling $ 13,300. I’m hoping someone wants to take this car the rest of the way and complete it as it deserves to be done. Looking for $7,500.

I'd prefer not to part it out in the hopes someone can pick up where I left off. If you have any questions, please call or text at 508 four 0 eight 7924 or email me at paulmmassicotte @ gmail . com

too far apart for most people...10k for a big project it a lot..not saying it isnt worth it..just a lot of money for a car so far a part..not desirable except to a few people like you and I..hard call...

id keep working on it til it looks like a car agin...by then, maybe things will change and you can finish it...

Price sounds fair considering what it would take to duplicate. The TT built Nailhead is a real nice bonus.
What hurts is the amount of metal and paint work it needs to complete, especially for a buyer that can't do the work themselves.
I could sure use those parts for my own cars but I'd rather see your car get finished.
Some day you may have time to work on it. Is there a need to get rid of it?
An option is to just do the bare necessities to put it back together.... prime the body, paint the interior and jambs, and leave the metalwork and final paint for the future. At least you could drive and enjoy it, even if it's just primered.
In a few years your kids will be old enough to remember their childhood. The GS would be a good memory for them when they get to our age.

  5. Thanks Mark and Walt. I appreciate both of your responses. I agree that it's a lot of money for a car so far apart. However, like Walt said, you couldn't get to where the project is for $9500.

I could probably part it out and get close to the $ for what's there, but I'd hate to do that.

There isn't an immediate need to get rid of it per se, but I'd really like to paint my 70, and don't want to lay out the cash to paint the car out of pocket. The cash from the sale of the 66 would go right to the painter.

Any possibility Paintworks would paint your '70 for the '66 in trade?

Respectfully you have done the easy part of the resto. Restoring the drive line and chassis is relatively cheap and easy for the average hobbyist compared to the remaining body work. There's 150-200 hours of metal work needed and then the body work. That's 20k at the body shop and 3 yrs time. I'm looking for a 66-67 car and have looked at these pictures a hundred times.
I think to make the money you want you'll have finish or take a hit.

Paul- congrats on the second!!! Happy for your family! This was the 66 I saw in the garage in Uxbridge, correct? I hate to say it, as they get older, your "free" time will diminish substantially... Keep that in mind. Good luck!

Would't that car look nice with a 401 with an 8 stack, and stock looking body. Frank

Just listed the car on Facebook and Craigslist.

    Open to reasonable offers.

  13. Car will 100% go before the summer.

Planning to keep dropping the price until someone jumps on it.

Tired of paying storage on it.

  14. Price reduced to $ 7,500.00

Paul, Good luck with the sale . You just need to find a talented 66 lover.

  16. Still for sale. I’ve had some local interest but nothing firm.

Here are some photos of the fresh rebuilt engine.

I wish I had the time (I even like doing the sheet metal work) but already too many projects. I love the color combo/painted top and there's a lot there.

Not inline but questionsI'd have if I was: You didn't mention the interior - Bench or console? Assuming needs everything? Has anything been done w/the rear & is it posi? What factory options did it have? Glass?

Not a great time to sell a project but you're getting to the price where someone will (hopefully) take this on. Shame you can't keep it until you have time. Glws.

  18. It's a black bucket seat with console interior. The rear has been rebuilt with new axle bearings, which are hard to come by. It's a 2.93 open rear.

Not too many options on it. AM radio, power drum brakes. That's about it.

I've had a lot of inquiries on parts.
