Well, after vanishing for years, I’m back to the Buick world! I am working on a ‘65 Skylark and am confused on the tail lights. The wiring diagrams show all 6 sockets getting 2 wires. However, the center sockets only have one wire, yet appear to use 1157 bulbs. It also appears to be factory. Why are the center ones different? Can I wire them all the same with new sockets?

I really just want to keep the original setup. Just need to know why the center sockets are different from the wiring diagram.

The center tail lights only get running lights from the factory. No brake lights/turn signal.

Thanks! Glad to know that is the original setup. Any reason not to wire them with new sockets and add brake/signal so they are all the same?

That is what I did when I switched to LED tail lights. I do not know why the factory did it the way they did. However all you need to do is pickup the stoplight wire and bring it over to the center light bulb on each side. On my car the passenger side was a green wire. On the driver side it is a yellow wire. The running lights are the brown wire on both sides.

If you go to sequential tail lights all you really need to do is tap into the brake light wires per side and leave the brown tail light wires alone.
In fact the new center brake light wires could be left alone. The middle brake lights would get a slight delay and the outer brake lights get a further delay. We are only talking tenths of a second.
