Okay, here is the scenario, Ran the car a couple of days ago, ran perfect. Today the battery was dead, charged it up and when I connected it the Amp light came on and the voltage regulator clicked loud. Started the car and the light went out. Any Ideas!!!! Help please.!!!!! I took the regulator apart and cleaned and inspected the points, still the same problem! I will put a meter on it today and read the voltage output. Check all the connections.
It sounds like a possible ignition switch issue, as in it's staying in the "on" position, since your Amp light is on the second you connected the battery but went out when the alternator started charging the battery like it's supposed to. Something is either shorted somewhere or your switch is bad causing the key on power to stay on. Just a mildly educated guess.....
Update: Replaced the alternator (had bad diodes) also replaced voltage regulator to be safe. Battery is good. All back to normal and the system is charging correctly. Now, when I turn the key to accessary mode the alt light comes on !!! All else works properly. Comments Please are welcomed.
when you were hearing a clicking from the regulator did you have a battery charger hooked upend running? The voltage from the charger will cause the regulator to cut in and out (click).
In stock form the light DOES come on in the acss. position although it's not quite as bright. That's the way it's supposed to work.
