Hey fellow Buick owners! So I am the proud new owner of a beautiful 63 Riv....took 1 month to get her to me from a different province and I took her on her maiden voyage last night...problem is, at low speeds, turning sharp in a circle to park for example, or turning sharp from one road to the next - left or right - if I just tap the gas, she sputters and dies out....I think it may be a float adjustment issue as one side of the carb may be starved of fuel (does this weather the gas tank is full or half full) ; however I had read it may be a power steering pump working too hard and overloading the engine? I don't know what kind of carb she has as I haven't gotten that far but she's got the 401 nailhead....thank you SO much for your help! Iwant to drive her as much as I can but I need to fix this hiccups first :)

Welcome to V8 from Winnipeg! You likely have a Carter AFB or a Rochester 4GC on there. Lots of people here to help you with that.

Welcome from another Winnipegger! Odd that your new Riv didn't register on my radar, but I don't lurk on for sale pages either. Roland is not a big town, more like a small village.

Hahah yea I've been looking for a 63 for 15 years, I could could just never afford one....then some family matters happened that made me realize life is short and you have to stop putting things off...so I bought her :)

An ole car is like an ole horse. You can't just jump in and go after she been sittin for a while. You need to introduce urself to her. Rub her down , clean inside and out real good, get rid of all the old owner smell and vibe and make her yours, a tune up, peek under the valve covers, fuel filter, at least a carb cleaner rebuild, check ur floats , be sure they float . All that good stuff. Then take her out for a spin .

And a good brake system check / fluid flush with a good, good look at the tires mainly the inside while looking for leaks around the 4 corners is always good. We want them to run great and stop better !

    Enjoy the car !
