I rebuild the 425 engine out of my 1963 Riviera. At the moment I'm wondering about the correct colors of the engine parts. I know the engine itself has to be silver. But what's about the oil pan? The water intake? The lifter cover? The intake manifold? All silver?
Thanks if someone can enlighten me.

ALL silver for the parts you mentioned.

The engine is assembled, painted, then test run. Nothing that was on the enige during the test run would be removed to paint a different color. The power steering pump, altermator, fan, etc. are added later and are painted whatever color the sub contractor paints them.

Oh - interesting. Didn't know that. That means also the screws, visible parts of the seals a.s.o. were originally 'painted' ? Always thought that's only when some 'lazy' rebuilders did the job ...
    Thanks to both of you
