1963 OEM a/c compressor: yea or nay?

My '63 LeSabre wagon has factory air. As part of the underhood refresh, we're going to tackle the a/c compressor. I know the modern compressors are more efficient, but I really do want to keep the factory under hood look. Or at least period-correct. I like really cold a/c, so am I wrong to keep the OEM compressor?

The modern day compressors may be more efficient
but the old school units are really quality pieces..

    Jon,

Suggest OEM. When the original compressors are working properly they cool properly.

Cannot beat the original appearance, especially considering that factory air was probably not especially common in '63 LeSabre wagons.

    Just my opinion.

The R5 piston type are way quieter as well. Even an after market vintage air unit stands out like a sore pinky... "well, at least it has air". Yours probably has two massive V belts as well, denoting Raw Power! ws
