In fact sounds like a scam. Trying to get money out of UPS and PayPal.

Wow. Sorry I have nothing new to add. I would agree that the empty boxes suggest a local thief.

Maybe posting a "lost package" ad with a small reward?

    Best of lucks.

The old "he asked for it" mentality. Hey, it was unattended right?

    Nothing, more like everything.

Well here's a picture of what I found when I came home:

So not really "in the dumpster" per say. After talking to the neighbors it seems that UPS left the box in front of the apartment closest to the street where is was most visible, not my unit. I know my roommate didn't do anything, we've been good friends for years. My neighbors are all nice people who don't give a crap about cars so I can't see them doing anything untoward.

I think the thief pulled the box into our trash area to be less visible while inspecting the contents.

Also no luck at the flee market, but will call all the local scaryards on Monday as most are closed for the weekend.

Who ships a $1500 item without ins or signature, I’d be all over the company or person that sold them to you. Also UPS didn’t deliver the package to proper address if your apartment number was on the mailing address and is accessible. You need to dial up the volume on your complaint line

If you shipper included your Apt number and UPS left it at another door they will have to pay the claim. Sounds like the driver was to lazy to take it to the correct Apt. Another thing if the seller did not request a signature paypal will take the money from him. Anything over $250 requires a signature...

Through eBay/Paypal it is now $750 requires a signature. It was changed back a ways.

I agree with the second paragraph. Leaving the package where it was easily visible from the street and not at your apartment door does not constitute delivery - it is on them, but the machine shop (or you) will most likely be required to prove the value of the shipment. At least that's how it works at the USPS.

Thanks guys, I started an official UPS claim and I will see how it works with PayPal. The thing is, I don't want to take the seller's money back from him because he'd still be out the pair of heads. I guess he did potentially make a mistake not specifying a signature, but I don't feel that he should have to pay the full amount because of it?

Will update once I hear from UPS!

I think Ronnie has a good point ,
The boxes left in the trash area tells me , someone took it into their Apt. Opened it, then took the box to the trash area.
    As if it was theirs..

UPS insurance lmao. Good luck collecting from them. Money only flows in one direction with them, and that's into their pocketbook.

Bottom line is, they don't give a rats behind about anything but themselves and their pocketbooks.
