I just bought a 12 bolt rear end (Chevy) and need to get some ideas of vendors where to buy the parts to build it strong. I need averything. I have an empty housing. Need axles, carrier, gears (I need help with the gears too). This is going on my 69 GS that I just planted a 455 into. I would like some gears I can run on the freeway and at the same they need to get me off the line with some decent times.
    Thanks again!!

You can get a good set of 30 spline axles from Summit/Jegs for under $300, Moser or Superior.

Eaton is a good carrier and about $450.

A 3.55 gear has always been a good compromise for the highway and street. $200.

An axle bearing/seal kit will run you about $100.

For strength, a rearend girdle is always good and looks cool too. Another $150 or so.

There. I just spent about $1200 for you. And unless you know what you're doing, have a professional setup the gears for you. They have to be just right, or you'll have problems and noise on the road.

You might try Mark Williams. They have ring/pinion/carrier setups in kits and often have sales. VERY good to work with.

You might want to consider Ford style bearing ends on the 12-bolt. From what I understand the c-clip eliminators are ok for straightline stuff but if you're hard in the twisties they tend to leak. Of course, it's more money to have the bearing ends welded on. If you go that route it's a good time to decide if you want rear disc brakes. They will set up for stock rear drums however. Talk to the guys a MW.

I went with the big Ford ends on my 12-bolt. I think the whole shaboom (MW Masterline axles, ring/pinion, posi carrier, TA girdle, etc.) cost me about $1800.

    Posi and gears

Scott. I have an eaton posi with the 800 lb springs (stock is 400 lb) for 33 spline axles (stock axles are 30 spline). It is complete with all the bearings and a 3.42 gear. Contact me at cacmanjr@aol.com if you are interested. BTW it is for use with non-c clip type axles only. Great setup for a real strong street or lighter duty race (no spool) machine.

My race car ran 10.90's with this setup.

    12 bolt

    I e-mailed you this:
    Jim,
I am definitely game for saving money, but I want to do it right the first time building the rear end strong so I don't have to do it again. Money is tight, but I have the rear housing so I feel it's time to move forward. Could you give me a list of parts with the vendors listed for each and prices as well? BTW, I am in Pearl City, Hawaii at zip 96782 for shipping cost purposes.
What do you recommend for gears. It's going to be a cruise night and weekend car that I will fire up throughout the week to cruise about town in. I will need to go some distances on the freeway, but would like to take a few runs down the track just for the sake of curiosity. I'd like to get her under 13's.
    I am probably est about 475-500 HP with about 550 ft lbs / 2400 Hole shot stall / 10:2-1 / Roller rockers / D.U.I. Distributor / TA Perf chrome full length headers / TH350 modified slightly / edel 800 / TA SP-1 single plane / & more...

I could go on, but please get me the info re: the rear end build so we can talk about payment and shipping!!!
    Thanks & Aloha,
