I have a 72 Electra that has a 12 bolt rear end. I was looking for gears for it and have been told that the gears for GM 12 bolts are only for Chevelles and Camaros and the Buick are different. Is this true or will the 12 bolt gears work with this? Thanks.

    it's not a "12 bolt"

you have the 9 and 3/8th that buick used. Heavy ,tough and almost impossible to find aftermarket parts for. Chevy will not work.

What Ed said. But if you're patient, you can find them, just ask Smartin on this board.

Unless you're planning something dramatic, I'd keep the 9 3/8 rear end. They're pretty much indestructible. (one of the reasons that parts are hard to come by)

What you can do, If you just want posi and your same gear ratio is to find the 9 3/8ths carrier. It's easier to find then the whole thing, cheaper and you can just use your gears, that's what I'm doing. Are you looking for a different ratio, posi or both?

To add to Ed's comment, not only Buick, but also Olds and Pontiac (and Caddy?) used the 9 3/8 rear end.

Nobody makes aftermarket gears for them, but there are performance gears out there, (3.23, 3.42, and ?) it just takes persistence. From what I understand, and '71 and later 9 3/8 will go right into your Buick, if you want to swap the entire thing.

What is your goal? Posi, any particular ratio?
