I did a quick search respecting conversion of the 9.5 rear brakes to 11 inchers(in particular I am talking about cars with factory front discs).Didn't find anything.I believe there are kits from aftermarket sources to do this but it may be cheaper to pick up the parts from local automotive stores/junkyards.I would think that it is a good alternative to rear discs.I think the larger brakes were perhaps available possibly on some wagons or 1/2 ton Chevy trucks with the 4.75 bolt pattern.I presume all hardware would need to be acquired-backing plates, springs, shoes, perhaps bigger brake cylinders, etc.
Has anyone done this with their GS? Did it prove to be worthwhile? I know that rear discs work fine and the only downsides are cost and if you drive your vehicle all-year round in this neck of the woods with salt on the roads in the winter absolute destruction within a year or so.By the way I had a '02 Silverado that only went about 1.5 years before a $1000.00 complete rear brake job was necessary (not covered by warranty after 18,000 miles in my case).
I have heard of this conversion from someone(can't remember who) who said there was no need to even change the combination valve. Rod
