Well Unfortunately I will not be at BG again this year. Damage was more than it appeared. Broke the #6 Rod, couple of seconds before I killed the power in the last run. Only parts undamaged were intake, one head casting, and a few lifters, push rods and valves.
I'm sorry to hear that Wayne, that has got to be discouraging. Does Chuck have any ideas why # 6 broke? Keep your chin up and Keep pressing forward your an inspiration for a lot of us!
You know that has to be one of the most agonizing sounds when your engine goes. Even worse is if its something that you overlooked that you know you should not have. Even Even more worse is if its something that you were gonna change but didn't thinking it wouldn't happen. But now you have a reason to get The TA Tomahawk Block!!! I hope it was not one of those that you blew, Then i might feel like an ass.
1000 HP normally aspirated? You can count on it being a Tomahawk! Don't know of anyone that ever made that much HP with a stock block.
Good thing is that nothing happened to Wayne and the rest of the car is still AWESOME! Hang in there "You'll Be Back". Larry
That's terrible news Wayne.. I was afraid of that when I saw the bent valves and broken plug, but did not want to jinx you.. so I kept my mouth shut. 5000 or 5300 series GRP rod? Extra small pin? Small big end? I would assume it lost number 6 rod bearing, which allowed the piston to contact the valves/chamber, and then knock the pin out of the piston.. which then gets a loose rod swinging around beating everything up, until it breaks. Never seen a brand new Alum rod break, although I suppose it is possible. JW
If it went that with an automatic you could argue for it being 1000hp but remember that third pedal the car had? Someone like Scotty that knows his way around a clutch can make a pretty efficient combo that skews the "math"
Was that NA, or did he use the bottle to run 7.68? Either way, even if Scotty or others were close, they sure didn't last long at that level!! They were usually lucky to get one full event in without something letting go! Steve
No bottle.... and while there were a couple of people who spread that rumor around, Scotty said later on that he regretted not hitting it with the bottle, just to show everybody what it would REALLY do on the juice!
