Isn't that a 8.2 in the photo since it doesn't have the ears on the bottom of the rear end? Just asking.
No. That is the other 8.5” casting used in 71-72. That particular casting that Jim pictured came under all of the 71-72 Cutlass/442’s built in Lansing Michigan.
Another reason we put the true trac in too there are NO true tracs in the 8.2 chevy or BOP 8.2... lol. It is the 71 72 Olds casting 8.5 which are more steatlhy than the buick ones...They doid get interchanged over the 71 72 era just depends on the plant your car was made in. We like them for chevys as it does fool the techs in nostalgic class...lol. they think it is a 8.2 from the rear cover
Yep good example of what a NEW ring and pinion pattern can look like with some time and effort. Remember used will be a bit more finicky... all depends on the way the gear was maintained over the years . Take care, Jim J D Race
