Hey guys, I recently acquired a 71 GS Convertible. Who is the recommended vendor of choice for new sheet metal? The car is whole and drivable. But, I want to line up fresh sheet metal sources (panels) for the restoration starting in the next year or so. Not sure what I will need, but the obvious is the right rear quarter needs replacing. The rest of the car has the normal observable rust issues like battery tray, door corners etc. I could go with used parts, but that isn't the point of this post. I'm going new where possible. Thx.
There are no convertible 1/4s made. NOS convert 1/4s are unobtainium. Hardtop 1/4s can be made to work though. No one makes complete doors only patches. Same for the fenders. I believe the core support is finally repopped though.
I do carry a lot of parts for that car but no sheet metal at this time. Thank you Ryan for mentioning me! Todd .
I don't know how crazy you're going to be with your car but you need to look for 71 and 72 doors, 70 driver side door would work but the mirror is in the wrong location.
Hmm. The '70 core support (and center support) is a one year only part. I thought that the reproduction core supports now available are actually '71 & '72 style (which can work on '70, but with minor differences). Depending on how bad your core support might be, rebuilding the sides might be an option. Here's a Hot Rod article about a '72 GS convertible ... https://www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp-0612-1971-buick-gs-core-support-repair/
Buick did not produce a 70 GS 350 convertible in 1970 only a GS 455 convertible or stage one were produced.
I have a nice used right side quarter/wheelhouse. IF you want the contour of the quarters to be the same on both sides and your not going to replace the driver's side, you'll need a right side convertible quarter. It's very difficult if not impossible to replace it with a hardtop quarter and get the contours to be the same as orig. My '71 GS 350 convertible needs both sides - I want them to look the same and will likely never find a pass. side quarter to match what I have - Otherwise I wouldn't selling it. The thread is posted on here in the parts for sale section.
Of the 1971 A-Body Buick Convertibles only 599 were made in the 350/350 combo. There were more made. This is the source I used, I can not confirm its accuracy. https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/data-sheets/Buick Production Numbers.pdf
