275 first gear in the trans is a good upgrade and pretty cheap too,..you just modify a 700r gear

Or better yet a 200r4 swap would wake it up a few tenths

I was considering a 2004r trans a few years ago when I had my 350 trans out for a rebuild and upgrade by Vince Janis, but decided to stick with my 350 trans, even tho the 2004r can be upgraded, I feel the 350 trans is more durable even is stock form.
Kinda like you 455 guys, you'd rather have the 400 trans behind your 455 than a 350 trans, yeah the 350 trans will hold up for awhile, but...………….o_O
Grumpy (Guy) said he slowed a bit with his 2004r and 3000 stall.
    350 trans is 2.52 first
    2004r trans is 2.75 first
Would it make that much of a difference?

    The 200 has a better gear spread 2.74 /1.57/1/.67
The gain comes in the fact you can gear up to a 4.10 rear thats where the gain comes

A 2.75 first gear swap in the 350 will provide the same spread but you're still stuck with the 342 rear gear

A properly built 2004 will hold that 350 just fine i promise,..plus you get lock up which is super fun when it locks on the big end

Got to remember when I had the 350 trans I had a loose 3500 stall that I could footbrake to 3 grand. Even tho I went about a tenth slower with the 2004 trans I use a 3000 stall and it is a lot tighter. Even with the slightly slower out of hole 1.90 60 ft I make up all of the time by the 1/8 due to the lower gear in the 2004 trans. My 60 ft with the 350 trans and the loose convertor was 1.80.

My 1/8 mile runs are basically the same times with both trans. and the two different set ups.

I went to the 3000 stall since with the 350 trans and the loose 3500 stall the nitrous was pushing the engine to 5 grand no matter what. Yeah comes out of the hole like a freight train with a 125 shot on nitrous.

That 2004 can hold up mine has been in there since 2006 and I blasted it a bunch of times using the 125 shot of nitrous I was getting 60 fts in the 1.60 range I am running a 3.73 gear 28" tire.

I also have that very tight suspension you cannot bounce the car at all, so there is a lot of strain on that 2004 trans with the 125 shot attached to it.

A 410 gear and a 2004 trans is the way to go and put in a 3500 convertor in there with a nice fat cam.

I Have to say here that the 3500 stall convertor was really the best one come out of the hole so hard it would scare the 455 guys and make them red light. LOL 1.80 60 ft sometimes get in the 1,70's With that you are up on the torque and on your way to HP heaven

On a street type driven car I would take more gear and od over more power

Try some Split fire plugs I went a little faster with those.
When I hooked up the vac from valve covers to the headers I picked up 2 tenths eliminating the pvc valve. That X pipe helped too .
I was looking at some of my old records from Norwalk Nationals went there a lot between 1995 and 2008 every year.

Car is running good just go back and make runs and keep track of the runs you need a book that keeps track Summit has them use it

Here is your tip the car will run the fastest if you can get it down to 140* but no lower that will be worth a tenth Start up and move forward to not heat it up too much. I used to push it at the old 42Drag way

No need to push at the bew d42....just take it out of park and it rolls downhill in the lanes......very nice for racers as long as park works........but I would hate to see how much water collects at the bottom in a big rain

Save yourself some money, move to 3:73s and up to a 28" 275/60-15. Will give you 3:50-60 rear gear ratio.
    OR:
You can run the 26" 275/50-15s for a 3:73 rear ratio at the track , then put 28" tall tires on the rear for the street, effectively dropping your ratio to be more streetable.
