Install instructions (three pages) references Buick models Skylark, Grand Sport, Special, Le Sabre, Wildcat and Electra. It also references years 68 and 69. The install sheets are dated 1969, but I know these were install in 70 thru 72. I have seen a 70 and a 71 442 with it." From Wikipedia: "On an automobile, Twilight Sentinel is a device on General Motors' cars that senses outside light and turns the exterior lights on and off depending on lighting conditions. In addition, Twilight Sentinel also allows the driver to set a timer (located with the headlight switch) that delays shutting off the headlights for a specified time period, usually up to three minutes. The driver can park the vehicle, shut off the car's engine and exit the automobile after dark, then use the headlights to light the path into a nearby building, such as a house, before the system shuts the headlights off automatically. An electric photocell located in the dashboard detected lighting conditions and activated the headlights as appropriate. Usually, this would mean turning on the headlights at dusk and shutting them off after sunrise. During daytime driving, the photocell would be able to keep the headlights off when driving under a bridge, through a short tunnel, etc. However, Twilight Sentinel does not automatically shut off the headlights if the driver manually turns the headlights on (they must manually turn the headlights off), nor does it turn on the exterior lights for driving conditions such as heavy rain or fog (however in some newer versions of the system, Twilight Sentinel is linked to GM's RainSense automatic windshield wiper system to turn lights on automatically when the wipers are on). Twilight Sentinel was first offered exclusively on 1960 Buick LeSabres, Invictas, Electras and Electra 225s."
From My3Buicks: According to the Master Parts Catalog Dated September 1972 2.486 - 981467 is for 1966-1967 Series 50-60-80-9000 in other words big cars and Rivs it then has it listed for All as Req 1968-1972 Can't tell how much further ahead it goes since this book is a 72 Cost new was $35.90
From Rivman: ". . . based on the info in John's post, it doesn't list this part no. for the '65 Riviera, but there was a 'Guide-Matic' option available for '65 Riviera. I'm not sure that the 'Twilight Sentinel' option was available, but the Guide-Matic option dimmed the headlights automatically when triggered by approaching headlights." My research finds that the Twilight Sentinel would not work in the Rivs with the clamshell headlights. It was offered on the 63 Riv's the last half of the year. - Bill
Of course it doesn't list a part number for 65, the parts book clearly states it was first available in 1966 if it had been available prior to 66 the parts book would have noted that
Bill, you can delete the other thread in the "leads" section yourself. I'm no longer moderating so I can't do it. Also, mods don't read all the threads here, so likely no one saw your comment in your first post here.
Yes I am but my car is a full size ‘73... does this kit work with my model? If I could see pictures of the whole kit it would help me to determine that, including the contents of the small Guide envelope. Cheers, Glen
If I remember correctly, the Oldsmobiles that got the night watch option did NOT get a rally pac installed from the factory. I know a few that have installed a rally pac later on though.
