any ideas what a stock gs 350 with 3:42 gears would run in the 1/4 mile? Oh yes it’s a hardtop.
    Thanks

I’m sure someone who has run a stock small block will chime in. I’m going try the street legal sat Mission BC this summer. Plan is big block conversion in late 2020

We had a 65 slant 6 3 on the tree ran pretty good and I bet the gas mileage wasn't bad either.

    The GS I say 15.9 if it is a 70, 71 16.5

Take yours to the track if that's possible (close enough) and find out...…. WARNING YOU'LL GET HOOKED:p
I did 15.1 first time out on street radials, 413 cam, 3.42 gears, spinning like crazy!
Then with the help and guidance of the fine people on V8 Buick here, I widdled down to 13.65..... so far.
I installed a roller cam, then spun #3 rod bearing, so out came the engine and upgrades began:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Hope to be back to the track SOOOOOON:cool:

The Skylark GS is no lightweight, mines 3780 lbs, with AC, power everything, it may be heavier:mad:

If yours is stock, you are going to be disappointed when you are nowhere near 14.50's...I had a 70 4 speed 3.42 geared car with some added help and ran 14.55 in the 1/4 Aluminum intake,800 cfm carb, reworked ignition and 2 1/2 dual exhaust.Had a 202 cam or there abouts as well..Cr weighed 3800 plus change..But,it got better gas mileage than the GS 455 cars I was racing with..

If the motor is a 72 with all matching components and you have it initially timed at 4* BTDC, it will be an absolute slug and embarrassing. If you have it total timed to 32*, it wil probably run in the 15’s or 16’s. Take it to the track and see.

I would think 16s Tuning can help. Plenty can open it up.

We forget how slow most of the old stock cars were. Most big blocks ran mid 14's. 350 4 speed Camaro's ran low 15's and they felt fast at the time. Getting into the 13's was a BIG deal.

Big difference between a 1970 GS350 and the 1971 & 72 GS350's. Somewhere in my vast achieves of old car magazines I have a comparison test of the 1970 GS350 and the 1971 GS350. The magazine wanted to see if there was any advantage to the new low-compression '71 engine. There wasn't...

Let me know when you plan to go to Mission Raceway. Might take my 1976 Regal Sport Coupe for a few runs.

  18. STAGE III

STAGE III Lost Experimental 455-4 Bolt Main Block.

I lucked out on my 72,by the time I got it my brother had blown the original motor and a 70 High Compression 350-315HP 440ft lb torque was in its place and later I souped it up good.
I would slaughter the GS-455’s with it like the first 50 yards until they went by me like a freight train!
I got my revenge when convoying GS’s to the beach & we’d be on our CB’s and they’d ask “What do you mean you don’t need any fuel?”

Larry, I will power tune it to 34 degrees by 3500-4000 rpm. I will go to the track just for the experience. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time. Will be interesting to see the time on a bone stock 350 versus the transplant to big block down the road. I’ve built the rear diff - Easton 30 spline, moser axles, solid control arms, polyurethane bushings, air bags, Johnny joints on the diff ears, 1 inch rear sway bar, 1350 pinion.......winter project - turbo 400, 9.5 inch stall......final part of build - big block transplant in late 2020.
