    Thanks Phil.

I think some reverse psychology might work for me this year. :Dou:

Dee, are you worried about getting this award this year......

Any changes made to your vehicle since the last race. :3gears:

Not worried about winning this award at all. Reverse psychology... :Smarty:

If there is an award for "it" my luck is I'm not going to win it. See? I never win anything no matter how hard I try. :TU:

No changes yet. Going to ignition next....plus a totally full tank of gas. Gotta try something! :Brow:

Dee got rid of an old fuel tank sock that I'm betting was blocking the line...but I can't talk her into going out and blasting onto a highway on-ramp to check it out.

Come on, Dee - you know you want to! :3gears:

I've blasted this sucker all over the place. :3gears: Up and down the street :3gears: , tried the entrance ramp :3gears: , the 1/8th mile :3gears: , everything :3gears: It just doesn't like the 1/4 mile track at Temple :3gears: :3gears: :moonu: !

It runs good everywhere except Temple! I need another 1/4 mile track that's not 60 miles from home so I can really try it out. :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:

Dee, I think you have answered this before, but I forget. Are you using a Stage 1 pump?

I put a cheap-o on it just to see what it would do. Same thing.

Was the "cheap-o" an equivalent high volume mechanical pump to the Stage 1?

I struggled with the same problem as you for over a year, so I understand your frustration.

Its really not possible to replicate track conditions (burnout followed by a quarter mile blast) in the city unless you are an idiot (hopefully I am not offending anyone).

This is exactly how my car would behave. It drove like a champ on the street, but fell on its face at the track, no matter what I changed. Three mechanical pumps and a new fuel system from tank to carb later, I threw in the towel and put on an electric pump which finally gave me the ability to have a full throttle blast down the quarter with steady fuel pressure.

Dee -- The only way you are going to be able to rule out fuel delivery is to spend $100 on a fuel pressure guage and a 6 ft length of -4 line and mount that sucker on the cowl where you can see it while youve got it floored. If you do not have a fuel pressure drop and you do not want a guage on your cowl, sell the thing at a small discount.

    Thats my $.02.

I think I saw a fuel pressure gauge over on the BPG board, asking price was < $50, iirc.

Mike Garrison bought it. I was thinking of Dee also when that came up for sale.

Seems like the Autoguage (cheaper Autometer line) guage I bought was only about $35. But, the line was like $40 and the T to tie it into the fuel line was another $10. I fabbed a bracket out of aluminum sheet from the hardware store to mount it to the dash. So, maybe my $100 number was a bit high, but its a ballpark figure.

Here's the big question. Why is it the car was running fine (13's) before and all of a sudden it doesn't now? If the lines are clean, tank is clean, new fuel pump, and it ran fine before, what happened? I don't understand how it can be so thirsty now compared to before?

Can I borrow your gauge? Or buy it "second-hand" cheap? I've got to get something done quick before Temple or I'll be winning that prize Phil was talking about! :Dou:

BTW: I don't TNT in the city because with my luck, I'll get caught and loose my license! :3gears:

Here's a question: If it dies on the track and then starts right up after it dies, that doesn't sound like a fuel starvation, does it? Wouldn't it take at least a few cranks to get fuel back to the carb to restart it? :Do No: Thinking maybe a break-down in the ignition system? :Smarty:

I dont know Dee, maybe you got lucky when you ran it before. I do believe, however, that a 13 second car is right on the edge of being able to get by with a stock pump. Some people get by, some dont. I could not get by, even with a higher volume mechanical pump.

Also, I do not know for sure that this is your problem. But, it seems very plausible given what I have gone through with my car.

Like I said, the only way you are going to know for sure is to test it with a guage.

I would be happy to loan it to you at the track. You would need to get yours ready to accept the guage before hand with a fitting to T the guage in to your fuel system. All's you need is a spot for a 3/8 npt fitting (I think) to come in. It would be easy for me to unhook it at the track. You would also have to temporarily mount it to your cowl which would require drilling two holes. Let me know if you are wanting to do this and I will figure out the size of the npt port you would need to add.

I am not interested in selling mine as I still need it.

Does it just die right off the bat, or does it surge back and forth for a while then die? Does the dieing or surging occur at any particular rpm range or does it happen all over the board?

My car never died, although I guess it would have eventually if I had let it completely dry out of fuel. Mine surged and would do so erradically in the RPM range. But, as soon as I let off of the throttle, the pressure would regain and the surging would stop.

If you are not getting surging, then it may not be a fuel issue??

Have you posted on this in the BBB tech section yet? Might not be a bad idea to get some other opinions.

Phil, sorry for changing the direction of this thread, just trying to help out.

I called to make a reservation at Days Inn and asked what was the latest I could cancel my reservation in case the event is rained out. They said the latest we could cancel due to the group reservation rate is March 4. For $10 more, you can cancel up to the day before the reservation.

Just wanted to let you know that just didn't in case you didn't know. I'd hate for anyone to be out $55.95 + taxes just because they didn't know.

So does anyone want a room mate. I don't snore, promise! :Dou:

Dee, I called yesterday and made our reservation and they said we could cancel up until the day before. no mention of the group rate precluding that. if it came to that, i would just dispute the credit card charge. of course I called later in the day, so rather than speak with Monica, I think I was speaking with someone in Bangalore, so who knows... :Dou:

I spoke with Monica and she said there was no way to change it. Did you get the name of the guy from "Bangalore"? $65+tons of tax is a little much for me since I'm saving up for BG and Salem this year.

So any offers to share a room? No perverts, smokers, snorers, or anyone wanting any favors allowed. You guys know who I'm talking about! :Dou:
