"Exhaust System Ideas for my 1972 Buick Skylark"...

Discussion in 'The Bench' started by patshotrods, Oct 27, 2020.

  1. I want to change my Factory Single Exhaust to Dual Exhaust, I would rather go with a 2 1/4" System but can only find 2 1/2" and 3" from the Exhaust Manifolds back, so I guess that I will go with 2 1/2". I have been looking at T/A Performance for the Downpipes and Flowmaster for the Tailpipes as well as picking out a set of the Mufflers of my choice.

Does anyone know how much exhaust pipe I will need to go from the T/A Performances Downpipes to a set of Mufflers? I have a "1972 Buick Skylark 350 4-Door Sedan".

Any other ideas on what I should do, just let me know your thoughts or even post some pictures of yours, I even thought about 2 - Turndowns instead of Tailpies.

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks for your time!

Not to take you away from TA, but I got a dual 2-1/2" aluminized "H" pipe from the headers back(mufflers included) for $500 out the door. Turn downs at the rear bumper.

I don't drive the car in the winter so salt & such isn't a concern to me.

Can't agree more about the DRONE associated with Flowmasters... However, you stated that you would like a 2& 1/4 inch system. Summit has one. I used The Summit system on my 72 Skylark when it still had a 350 in it. I was quite pleased.
    https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-680120/year/1972/make/buick/model/skylark is for 2&1/4 inch.

You may have to have some additional tubing added forward of the Mufflers because the four door chassis is about a foot longer than the two door chassis. But any competent muffler shop can do that.

Had to re-edit .../I don't know how it confused the Summit info in the top. Corrected

I should also edit;). Mine was done at a muffler shop. That was for the above & labor.

Duh. Need to be a bit more clear.

  7. I am thinking about this system from Jegs and then pick me out some Mufflers, but I will still have to get the T/A Performance Downpipes as I will not be able to use the Header Back Pipes and Collectors that come with this kit. This Kit is 2 1/2".
