These are the rims I have on the back of my car: https://www.jegs.com/i/American-Racing/286/VN5155863/10002/-1 I want to get the same style rims for the front. However, I do not know if I get the same as the rear, 15x8 with 4.5 backspacking. Or the 15x7 with 3.75 backspacing. I am looking to run a 225 or 235 tire up front. Thoughts? These are the 15x7: https://www.jegs.com/i/American-Racing/286/VN5155761/10002/-1
For what it's worth I swapped out stock to 18x8 Torq Thrust IIs zero offset with 235/55-18 on all four corners of the Electra. Rolling radius is close to stock with that combo so speedo should still be accurate and with the same at either end means no changes to steering geometry and the gives ability to rotate to even wear. I have 15x7 with 235-60-15 on the front of the green car and 15x7 with 245-60-15 all around on the white car. No complaints.
I have 15x7 on front and 15x8 on rear on the last two buicks. I also run 245/60/15 on the front and 275/60/15 on the rear. This is my favorite setup I have used on my old Buicks and I have tried a lot of different wheel and tire combo's. Running the 15x7 with 245/60/15 is factory size and you won't have to worry about tires rubbing the wheel well.
Would love to find a set of used 15X8 for the rear. I have two set of wheels, one set of WM and another WP in 15X7.
15x7 with standard backspacing should work on the front of a standard Skylark with a 235/60 without any chance of rubbing. I have 245/60 on 15x7 rims on the front of both my cars without any rubbing and think it will work on most without issue. Some have gotten away with using a 255/60 on the front but you would have to have everything perfect for that to work. A 15x8 on the front would be risky without being able to test it first. I suspect the tires can't have much bulge to work. I have 15x8 Wheel Vintiques on the rear with 275/60 tires and rear discs. I mention the discs because they add 1/8" to the overall depth due to thicker rotor vs drum. They do not rub in any instance in the last 10 years.
