There are 2 LONG articles in the GSX-tra newsletter (1 in SPRING, 1 in SUMMER issues) updating everyone on the changes with the Buick GSCA. Below is a shortened version of the latest article to update everyone:

The BUICK GSCA Legacy Forges Ahead…

    ~ Paul Ferry

As I start writing the information on the transition of the Buick GS Club of America (GSCA) and GSXtra from Richard to me, I realized something interesting. Richard has been in the driver’s seat for 39 years with the club. What an accomplishment!

As people hear about me getting into the driver’s seat of the Buick GSCA, I found out that a lot of them were members at one time, but fell away for one reason or another. The biggest reason for leaving seemed to involve Bennett being part of it, but I reassured them that is NOT a factor anymore.

For those of you that don’t know me yet, I have been an all-in Christian since about 2015. While some of you may not have the same belief, you can rest assured knowing that being honest and other positive Christian characteristics are now part of my DNA.

The next issue of the GSX-tra (Fall 2019) and beyond will be 100% on me, in every aspect from the vision to the mailing, with help from Richard as Contributing Editor (GREATLY APPRECIATED)! The GS Nationals EVENT in Bowling Green KY will still be totally run by Richard, and be totally SEPARATE.

There is a brand new Buick GSCA website up & running, making info, updates, and renewal MUCH more accessible: www.BuickGSCA.ORG (make sure to use the .org on the end). Check it out for more info, and become part of something great!

My goal is to have as many benefits to being a member of the GSCA as possible! In the past, it seemed that if the club broke even financially, everything was fine (which wasn’t a bad thing). Going forward, I hope to increase the benefits as far as the finances will allow, and do stuff that other car clubs are either stopping or never even thought of doing for its members!

Here are the specifics for those that like the details: The current club “year” runs from Sept 1st 2018 to Aug 31st 2019. This (Summer) issue is the 4th of the 4 issues for this current (2019) club year. Technically, membership dues should be paid on or before Sept 1st of each year, which is how it has been for many years. Sending it in a TIMELY manner helps us pledge the most we can give back to the events coming up this fall and keeps our printing and mailing costs down too.

I feel my vision for the club is easy: Continually strive to make it better & better for its members! I have been in the GSCA since the mid 90’s. For me it was all about the members, AND ALWAYS WILL BE. My goal would be to grow the membership to a level that covers the expenses, and allow some extra funds to be available for added perks & benefits back TO THE MEMBERS! There is POWER in our numbers!

Surprisingly, it takes almost the same effort to run a club with 50 members as it does 5000. But the cost to operate it (taxes, legal, phone, website, my time, design, layout, printing, mailing, etc,) PER MEMBER goes DOWN as the count goes up. Anyone that has ever purchased or printed something in quantity has seen the cost per item go down in higher volume. The MAIN THING to look at is, if we can ALL help get the membership count back up, it will open up all kinds of new possibilities! With more funds coming in from more members, and lower cost to operate per member, it creates additional funds that will allow the MANY different ideas I have to make this the coolest car club around possible!

The biggest of those could be sponsorship (NOT done before) at ALL Buick events. It could create payout BONUSES for club members only, or discounts for club members, free food, free raffle items, dash plaques, cool trophies, jackets, shirts, calendars, or just about anything we all can think up! And that can happen from less than $1 a week (0.87 to be more exact) per member. So as the old adage goes, if you get 2 people to join, and they get 2 people, and they get 2 people, etc, it will become an awesome club with all kinds of new & cool stuff going on that EVERYONE can be really proud to be a member of! And even as hopeful as I am for all this to happen, there will still be a few added benefits to the members even if we stay the same size.

Your opinions & input are ALWAYS welcome! PLEASE send us any pictures & info you want that you think other members would like to read about! Changing your combo, new motor, going to a faster class, frame-off resto’s, win a race or car show, find something that really works well? LET US KNOW! Even if it doesn’t fit in the newsletter, it all fits online! The sharing of info with all the great people we have in the GSCA was one thing that drew me in. I’m just glad to be a part of it & know that we can all make it better than ever!

Thank you Paul for taking this on!

New leadership, new ideas.... basically new club, should equate to "new members". I'm thinking that a lot of folks that dropped will re-join given the new leadership. It would be very nice to see this club flourish once again and grow, similar to the Pontiac clubs.

Is there a way to check on membership status? Something tells me I may be due and I'd hate to miss on issue.
