I like your thinking! Im not familiar with the F-bodies, but I think the 350 Buick would be a tight squeeze, its a pretty wide engine for a small block Give it a go, see how it fits if you can. OOOOOOR, build the Buick built 3800 that's in there
Not sure how long the 3800 would survive with a supercharger. It's a 2000 and has 270,000 miles on it right now. Been parked for about 6 yrs now, only drive it a couple times a year. It still feels real strong and is a blast to drive with the 5 spd, but has a nasty oil pan leak and I'm thinking that I'll need to drop the cradle to change it. Not sure yet. But figured if I've got to pull it, I may as well see if a sbb 350 will physically fit in between the towers. I've got a Buick manual trans bellhousing. Would probably need to redrill to mount the T5 to it and then find out which would blow up first, the trans or the rearend! I'm betting the T5 would go first.
The 3.8L has the same deck height as the sbb 350 so as long as there is enough room in front for the 2 extra cylinders one should bolt right in and bolt to the trans; http://victorylibrary.com/mopar/m-table-c.htm As for not killing the trans or rear.......................?
The throttle body on the SC 3800 is over the bellhousing on the back of the motor. There is no room on the f-body at the rear of the motor due to the firewall being back under the windshield. The rear 2 cyls are under the overhang. Well, that's interesting. As long as the 350 isn't too wide, it might work. There is plenty of room in front for another 2 cyls. edit...That looks to be the specs for the 3.8L like what is in the GN/TRs. But is the deck height on the 3800(Series 1,2,3, fwd) motors(like the one in my Firebird) the same?
Had to do a little digging to find the deck height for that 3800 and it looks like they shortened it maybe 1"?(they didn't really say but they did say the rods were shortened 1" so we can probably assume the D/H was shortened around that much too?); https://www.facebook.com/Gm3800Series123Engine/posts/270176066423257 So a sbb 350 might be to wide? You might be able to fit a sbb 300(9.543" D/H) in there? being that the deck height is .644" shorter than a sbb 350. There is a member selling the parts to build a sbb stroker 300 that would be 350 cubes if you want 350 cubes? Or maybe just a sbb 300 would max out the trans and rear handling capabilities? The more deck height the wider the vee(V) will be, so that's why I have been mentioning the deck height. What would be really fun in that car would be an LS swap seeing how those cars came with those that have a 9.24" deck height.
