ABC Performance has inner tubs for 68-72 A-body. They look stock,but add about 1.5” more depth. However,you would need to get into your frame and narrowing your wheel arch rails. The problem you run into is that you can’t move your arches in that far without interfering with your coil springs. Then you would need to commit to rear coilovers...... Your inner tubs are not really the issue. The tire will hit the wheel arch of the frame first. You can narrow it some,by slicing off the outer face,and moving it in. It’s not much,but it helps. I did a frame for my 70 like this. I posted a picture with the rear coil spring installed,and there is only 1/2” between the spring and the arch. I am also NOT altering with inner wheel tubs. I sucked-in the outer arch,which makes it all flush with the inner tub. I did show one of the ABC tubs that I was looking at,but I’m keeping the originals intact.
This is great info exactly what I was looking for ! I have done some Research and have seen the frame rail mod you did here and also the coil over . I’m not looking to go to a huge rear tire just big enough so it Looks like there is some meat under there.. Great work on your rails there looks professional... Did you buy a kit for the rails or make that peice yourself ?
I fabbed my own pieces and all of the gussets and reinforcements. ABC and a few other companies make a wheel arch kit.
I never got the tubs,so I did not narrow my frame like that. But yes,the tubs give you 1.5” deeper clearance. The problem is that you can’t move your wheel arch in that much without running into the coil spring,and also possibly make the frame too weak. If you converted to rear coilovers,you could move the whole rail in.
