Has anyone used this paint for engines: I just ran across this and was wondering if it was any good. It is a bit pricy at $14.50 a can + $8 for shipping. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-74-Bu...216079&hash=item2f0cf036b8:g:858AAOSw~JRaoY37
Here's Krylon 2114 which is NLA and Bill Hirsch's Paint . The Bill Hirsch is rated to 500 Degrees . Other that have bought this paint you show have posted pictures of it an in my opinion it appears to be too Pinkish . Others have bought CARS paint and complained it too was too Pinkish
The vendor is Inline Tube and it appears they have color matched the Buick red. This is custom filled for them.
Ill bet Krylon makes it for them and just re-started 2114 production. Just like TPP has gotten ZolaTone to provide the aqua trunk paint exclusively to them
"Just like TPP has gotten ZolaTone to provide the aqua trunk paint exclusively to them" You can buy the trunk splatter paint right from your local GM dealer - matches perfectly. You still need to flat clear it because it's junk paint, but, it does look good Perfectly matched my original in my '71 Flint built car.
There is also another aftermarket NON-water based trunk paint, but it has a VERY short shelf life. Naturally, I can't find it now...
OMG Hirsch ! Straight enamel . C’mon. Nothing in Can is good . Harbor freight buy spray gun. Buy some straight enamel reducer. If need be. Mail boxes should be aerosol. Not Buick 455 engine
Many years ago when I was working at a Valspar jobber, I built my own Buick Red formula in their 852 2k urethane line using the long ago discontinued Martin Senour aerosol Buick Red to match to. I'm fairly certain that the paint is still available to have mixed.
StratoBlue72. BIG difference between Martin Senour/ Valspar . Makers of the Best Enamel on the Planet . Than an Aerosol knock off company. I believe that Straight enamel back in the day had lead in it. I know Hirsch Engine enamel has lead in it. That’s the only point I’m making when I hammer on people using cheaper products.
What I was saying was that supposedly the Martin Senour Buick Red aerosol was a good color match , and I used that as a color sample to build my own formula in a high solids catalyzed urethane. Now I would never use Valspar for painting my car, but their paint is definitely superior to using aerosol. If I was to make some now, I'd use the R-M Uno urethane, which still has some chromated toners available. Only brands going on the outside of my vehicles is going to be Glasurit or R-M.
Ability to match color is huge. Those companies couldn’t match my GSX yellow. PPG was a dead match and paint was high quality.
Who sales the buick red correct urethane in a quart for spraying. Years ago I sprayed a 455 after first a application a coat of featherfill primer and then the buick red. It lasted on the engine for 20 years before the engine was taken apart for a rebuild. I think I bought it from CARS inc.
