Hi all I am purchasing new coil springs for all four corners of the GS. So I figured new insulators at the same time, but I am confused as to the quantity needed. Some websites suggest one per coil, with conflicting info for the rear in regard to whether the insulator goes on the top or bottom. And to further confuse matters, some suggest two per coil spring. My shop manual is not clear in that regard and if it is mentioned in the Assembly Manual, I could not locate it. So, what is the correct quantity and placement for all four corners? Cheers Randy
As far as I know, nothing for for the front. Insulators for the rear on the top. Refer to chassis manual page 40-4. (In the 1970 manual) One for each side.
In case you don't Have the '70 manual. http://buick.oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/1970/1970 Service Manual/index.html
Yes , thankyou fot that link. I was unaware of it and had been using the TeamBuick 71 manual they have available as a pdf. Appreciated, John , Jim...
I noticed after replacing my original rubber rear coil spring insulators with the plastic ones from Cars Inc. that the rear does not seem as high as before the replacement. The original ones were shot but I did not replace the springs since the do not appear to be sagging. I was not able to locate rubber insulators. Anyone else have the same problem?
You might try these. I got some for my '64 from Inline Tube/Motor City Musclecar, and they are great. 68 to 72 are different than mine, so I haven't seen them in person. But I have always been happy with purchases from these guys. https://www.ebay.com/itm/68-72-A-bo...826337?hash=item2c8a0f6761:g:LJQAAOSwn~JaoYya
Thanks, Mike. They look just like the ones I got from Cars Inc., but at a better price. The stance is slightly lower in the back but not as low as the look of the 70 GS in the original brochures. So I will live with it. I’m sure at least they will last longer than the original rubber ones!
