What are the factory shift points TH400? I need to reset mine. BBB455 3:73 gears. TA413ect thanks kenny462
that depends on the calibration of the transmission as it left the factory.. a TH400 has a plate with a two letter code and production year on the side.. Lets see what youre working with first. In the meantime, read up on governor modifications: I did have a thread with a recipe for a 5300 rpm shift point governor on here at one point, I'll try to find and link to it. Admin- you might want to move this to the "juice box" section...
No such thing as factory shift points really. Depends on gearing. Minimum throttle shift points range from 9-13 MPH from 1-2, and 20-25 MPH 2-3. Wide open throttle shift points depend on governor calibration (weights and springs). Minimum throttle and part throttle shift points can be adjusted in a small range with an adjustable modulator.
You can make it shift wherever and how ever you want. In fact, my '75 Electra I had (455/400) even in manual low, would auto upshift at 40 mph, at whatever rpm that was. The only reason I could figure at the time was "hmmm, 400 trans. usually behind a big block, 454 Chevy, 455 Buick, Olds, Pontiac, Cadillac, GM figured these engines weren't designed to spin to 6000 rpm, ahhhh lets auto upshift at 4000/4500 rpm regardless of shifter position.
had my shift points chan ged today. 1-2 at 4000rpm 3-2 at4300rpm. what a difference this made in how the car runs. only downer was whenI dropped the open bag B&M parts..made me sit in waiting room.kenny 462
So I'm a little confused - you had the shiftpoints changed TO 4000/4300? Do you know what weights/springs they used ?
took weights springs from another t400. like driving a different car. all I know is that it is totally more faster than before. going to he track Wednesday will post times. track is 6500 ft altitude. need conversion chart. kenny462
