Hmmm - It may work better on the intake manifold bolts as you originally had it. I have found the leveler helps to get a big angle to clear the firewall and then lower it to level to get the trans over the radiator support. But I've never done a big car, so if it works with the lift plate only, as Joe says, go for it.
Success! Absolutely effortless, 20 minutes. Turns out there is a ton of room in the big cat. Going with the leveler helped for sure, on the pitch required to clear transmission past the firewall and the leveling it once out.
Nice going. I am glad it was easy for you. I have been watching your thread to see how things turned out.
Thank you... now the fun begins. Cleaning and degreasing for a month. Hope to have it all pretty and painted and back in for spring.
Got a gasket question. I’m doing the trans and oil pan right now and when they go back should I use a dry gasket with no sealer as most seem to suggest? A couple say just a light tack to the pan to hold in place and dry on the other side. Looking for those who have been there, done that. Thanks
I always apply a thin coat of Permatex Ultra black on both sides of the engine oil pan gasket. Trans pan I leave dry
Love your car! My 2 favorites are 63 cat (my dad and a brother owned one), my problem is I would have to put a 455 in it. Just a sickness that I have. Next lawn mower I buy will have a 455 and it will be called a Wildcat. The other car.. 67 GS lark!
Thanks Ken. Although I absolutely love a big block in just about anything, these early Buicks with the gorgeous nailhead are just too classic to change. Would love to see that 67 for sure. Aren’t many 60’s buicks I don’t like.
Update!... getting closer to going back in. Has been fun, expensive, and time consuming all in one, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
