    Hi Guys

Anyone ever modify the 70-72 GS console to hold cup holders. Trying to figure out a way without changing the original look.

    Pics would be great.

    Thanks

    Leo,
Check out this console done by a member here. It looks easy and you could switch back to a stock look when you wanted.

You know I have a beat up spare console door in my basement. I am gonna' look into making something like that over the winter....

That's part of the fun driving these older cars, no cup holders, and trying to keep your crotch dry while you hold yer drink between yer legs:p

I have a '72 with the fake woodgrain door panels; I think I'm gonna cut up a piece of teak to fit in place of the door. Actually the PO ran a screw into each corner of the cover so that's no loss, but I hate to cut holes in the door itself. The teak and holders (badly needed!!) should stay down on its own weight with room underneath for some shades and Reg. papers. Nice idea! Now to find some stainless receivers. Ideas??

This console which I am assuming is a '72 has a notch in the back. Is that a "knock-out" for a light or an ashtray?? ws

I have seen stainless cup holders just like the one Joe posted on Ebay. They were/are selling for around $10 pair.

Bill, you of all people should know this! Boats (ski and wake board boats for sure) come with stainless cup holders. If a guy wants black plastic, go to a Polaris dealer and ask for the ones out of a Ranger side x side, about the 2006-2012 vintage had them on the dash. They used to fly out when towing them down the highway. A buddy of mine took some heated and lighted cup holders out of an Escalade and made a console for his truck if you want to get tricky.....

I've got several of these cup holders (see attached picture) that are ok with cans but are too flimsy for most bottles. These were really common in the 80s/90s but are hard to find now. The flexible flap that tucked into the window channel was much more forgiving to use with most cars.

The stainless cup holders are available in various sizes from Amazon for cheap. They even have plastic ones in various colors, even some with LEDs in them so you can find your drink in the dark! I'm just wondering if I make an arts and crafts project out of this the old console lid if I can make it look good enough to suit me....

Shame, shame, shame, shame on me!!! I never have a chance to look through the toy boat stuff but will now! I'm gonna get a large cup of coffee at CrackDonalds for a good measurement. I like the LED lighting thing (old folks have a hard time in the dark) plus the little whiz drain (with an overboard drain hose!) if you need to abort the cocktail in the "red light district"!

What was the mid 70's flic where two cowboys were riding in a ragtop Eldorado with beer coolers hanging in front of the AC vents? Caddy had bull horns on the front... First correct answer wins! ws

Chinaman make happy Rongggg time ! I like these with the blue LED lites, and Pat needs 2 for her new Ford Escape. Two NON LIT holders in black, way down low under the radio stuff, Sure to cause a crash at night looking for the holder. Ford built in DETLOIT. At least these get shipped from Elkhart, Ind. Might have to go with BLUE LED dash lights now.

What was the consensus on that a few years ago here? Some liked blue and some said white were better but almost too bright. Thoughts? Ideas?? ws
