Hi guys just wanted to share a few pics of a hot rod my freind built...

    Stock 455, turbos, Th-400, 3.73 12 bolt, 2300 pounds... It's making 550 HP at the tires.

Cool, he could probably put 2.41's in it and it would be fast:D

Yes he had a 2.56 gear in it and it was fine but too much torque killed the diff so he swapped out the whole rearend...

geez i didn't think a 455 could handle a turbo, let alone two of them.o_O

3 what? Are you saying he has went through 3 455 engines already and he knows you Mr. sbb 350?

Is he busting blocks or breaking rods? Or is he doing the cheap junkyark throw a turbo on it thing? If so no wonder.

Yes he lives right close to me I sold him a few 455s so far... Rod failures on all 3 engines.. No he does not want to do the Buick 350 yet but once he runs out of low cost cores I'm sure he will come around...

A set of 8 v6 forged Wiesco turbo pistons and a set of the new sbb 350 Molnar rods and he would be set for cranking up some boost without fear of breaking a block! Would be a whole lot more $$$ to make a BBB be more athletic, matter of fact to turn a BBB 455 into an athlete the block would need to wear an athletic supporter(or some times referred to as a jock strap or a girdle) so the block doesn't break. :p:D

If a complete 455 engine core is an average of $500(USD) the sbb mentioned above, the parts would be less than what the 3 core costs. Add some machine work and essentials and by the time he destroys about (5) 455 engine cores he could probably have a sbb 350 that would hold up.

With the sky high deck height of the sbb 350 he would still have the look of a big block for people that don't know better too.

I don't like when people destroy those fleeting cool old engine cores that are getting harder and harder to find like that so someone else looking for one, now there are 3 less of them that will never be available, what a shame.

If he is just out to blow up engine cores, there are a crap load of those me too engine swap LS engines in junkyards easy to come by to destroy. Granted it won't have big block torque but they will make up to 700 RWHP with boost before they start to blow up, a 150 HP more than the BBB in the truck is making now!

Cool truck, too bad BBB 455 cores are being permanently retired for it to be on the road.

I can see that happening! The taller gear would load the engine more, thus spooling the turbos sooner and harder, then BOOOOOOOM!
    I too cringe at anything more than a N/A 455, they're great engines, just a fragile design:cool:

Why not try a Nailhead? A 401 with a turbo is a killer. Forged crank/rods factory and no oiling issues. The heads need as much work as you can afford, but it's a reliable killer once built. I am looking for the right Riv to do a turbo sleeper with a 401. One day...

There was a guy with a really nice truck setup on a nailhead... The 350 is a good option for boost too.

It's a super low budget hot rod... Spending $25,000 or more on the engine is not happening...
