    IMG_8023.JPG Hey guys,

A little surprise today. Realized my cross member is bent on my 68 gs with th400. Bending it back will likely crack it. Do I get a used, new or weld this one?

Also, figured out that my driveshaft is about 2" too short. This explains tranny fluid leaks out of the shaft. Not sure what driveshaft is in there. Have a 12 Bolt posi and also, last year 73 nova bearing straps were the only things that fit. Lengthen the shaft or buy new? Heavy duty, regular or aluminum shaft? Want to figure this out in two days.

    Thanks

    Matt

I can't tell anything from that picture. The ends can rot. You can weld them.

Thanks Larry, welding would be the quickest and cheapest way. The pic is hard to see. The rubber isolator has rotated and the end of the member is bent.

You need new isolators, and the metal hardware that bolts over them. That one is bent too far. Crossmember may not be as bad as you think. Support the trans and pull Crossmember. Check both ends. Go from there . Need be you can weld/repair the crossmember ends

Wat are 73 nova bearing straps? Did you recently have that rear put in? There are 3 or 4 different yolks that fit the 12 bolt. Short , medium and long, and another wide spaced one for different u joint. The long one will no doubt be 2 inches .

Check to see if the yoke at the trans has a hole in the center. If it does, it
needs to be used with an output shaft that has an O ring to fit inside the
yoke smooth sleeve (extending forward beyond the splines). No O ring,
you have a leak. Bruce Roe

I think that would bend back no problem! Get it nice and hot!

Yep, been there done that. That's an easy fix. Thread the hole and locktite an allen screw in it
