    New project for the Summer...

New paint, engine detail, and some mechanical stuff. Owner is still deciding on going back to the original gold, or a Sapphire blue. I am just now starting to strip it, so he has time to decide. This will be a test of my skills in block sanding.

Nice! And trust me, those quarter panels will seem to grow an inch with every swipe of the sandpaper. But, it'll be worth it.

After over 20 hours stripping 8 layers of paint from the outer sheet metal, I removed the front clip and trunk lid. The pile in the photo is what came off the car when I stripped it. Fills a 2 gallon buckets. The paint was about 3/32 thick all over the car. .....not to mention the massive amounts of body filler.

I remember those days... Devon is absolutely right. I made a 28" x 3" sanding board just for those quarters.

Looks good Adam! Did the owner decide which color yet? I'm hopin' to see a beautiful GOLD paint job on that boat. Either way, it'll look great!

Keep it up, it'll be worth it!!! I had to dig all kinds of crazy stuff out of this car to make it as straight as possible. It was like an archeological dig, right down to a licence plate that had been used as a poor man's patch panel.

I was fortunate in that the previous rust repair was done with real metal and welded in. All I had to do was make a few little adjustments and spread new filler. There is one hole in the left rear quarter, and one in the front right fender. Everything else has been either repaired or is solid.

Whatever color is decided on there should be some bass boat metal flake added to it! :D

If I ever get around to painting my Impala I want bass boat metal flake in it because of what a boat the car is.

Been watching this thread with interest; the sapphire blue is a great choice in my opinion. It will work well with the "parchment" interior and black carpeting the car probably has.

The interior is all black, and the top will remain black. Should look sharp, regardless :) I will be doing a full glaze coat on the right quarter this week to final block before polyester coat. The other side should go somewhat smoother.

(Hopefully) the last coat of high build on the quarters and doors....this has been a challenge.

Finally back on this after the big move...finishing heavy body work on the hood, trunk, and fenders. Hope to have color by the new year!
