Core supports, bumpers, fenders, hoods, etc. I see the question asked quite a bit... 1968-1969 Fenders- bare, no trim = ~ 36-38 pounds- measurements to follow... 1969 rear bumper- stripped= ~ 35 pounds.... 77 in x 18 in x 5 in Anyone else??? If tighly boxed you can ship a 70 front bumper Fed Ex Ground. Manybe $50 for shipping and $20 for the boxing at Post Net.
FREIGHT: To get an accurate quote on freight for a BUICK 455 complete engine , A/C exhaust etc, and TH 400 trans, attached, secured via stretch wrap and / or straps and bracing on a pallet requires a 56"X56" and 30" tall, weighs 1000 lbs. All carriers require it to be drained, some carriers require full crate, which adds more wieght, time and effort. Call around, find a good company and stick with them. Save money by also loading at dock and deliver to a business with a dock. Just and engine, no accy's is about 700 lbs, can use strandard 40 x 48 pallet. You can save $$ sometimes if consignee lives in a beyond destination, perhaps a small town out of the way. Freight to a near by big city and the consignee picks up at the big city depot dock. USPS is likely the most reliable, convenient and affordable shipping on smaller goods. They have weight limits, as with most package carriers, package size is key as is weight. It gets pricy quick when the package get long. The quotes are sometimes a bit off, but I suppose it all balances out in the end. FED EX is next best, Up to weight of cyllindr heads, packed separately around 60 lbs each. Set up an account on line if you do a lot of shipping, reasonable princing and much easier to manage if doing a lot, for business? Easy to click on and get accurate quotes. Find the local FED EX Depot, near air ports usally, save a little there too not paying the fees, like in a KINKOS. Best I ahve seen for International, as you fill out all the shipping labels on line and custom forms. UPS is by far the most expensive. I never use them because of that. Greyhound does a good job for those bulky but not too heavy items. Seats, consoles, etc. Pretty reasonable, call them for pricing sheet. Obviously no door to door service, drop / pick up at bus depot.
ive had good luck with DHL on larger items. 70 front bumper to long island $65 72 rear bumper to wisconsin $50 100lb. dodge dakota 5 sp. trans to tx $50 DHL will also pick up at your front door, all you have to do is print a label online. i ship anything under 70lbs. and 108in. through usps, of all the items ive shipped through usps ive only had 1 claim and they had no problem taking care of it. UPS screwed me 2 times and i will never use them again and i ask anyone i buy from not to use them. they've lost items and paid for them but broke items then refused to pay for them when it was clearly their fault.
Fed-X will ship them wrapped in just bubble wrap. Take duct tape and cover any sharp metal. A 69 front bumper is real close to next size (Can't remember what that size is), takes it from $30.00 to $75.00, to get it to Texasou: I talked to my shipper the other day and he claims that all shipping services will standardize on sizing. He stated that shipping big light items, we'll take it in the shorts :moonu: Great idea George! I shipped a heater core to the Netherlands, $27 To ship a bumper, a scrap piece of carpet works well, Just roll it up and tuck in the ends and use packing tape. A 75 Buick rear bumper (just chrome, no inner supports) was $80 from Florida to Ohio. I alwasy found fedex ground to be the cheapest.
Trying to ship a package within the USA with USPS. Dimensions are 44"x44"x2" and its weight is 21lbs. Using the on-line calculator doesn't show a price o No: It says it is not mailable 44+44+44+2+2= 136" So 6" (if my math is correct) too much for an "oversized package" What alternative can I use best? It has to be a shipping company that has an office at an airport (Detroit) from where package has to sent...
If you use FEDEX. Are you trying to ship form US to Netehrlands that package? Youd be looking at 500-800 us dollars. I would find a freight company, but, the cost is likely not too far off.
I used the FedEx calculator, as far as I understand they can ship it, but cannot find whether there's a FedEx office at Detroit airport
There is a freight calculator on the fedex site. Tomorrow am, grab a phone book and call a local freight company and they will be the best bet, hands down.

I shipped a 67 Special front fender from Washington state (Tacoma) to Washington DC (Springfield VA terminal) via Greyhound bus. Weight is 28 pounds. Cost was $50.15. It only took a week. Fender was wrapped in bubble wrap and a heavy duty contractors trash bag using duct tape. Worked great and excellent service. - Bill
