Finally got some time to do some much needed relaxation and wrench on the buick. Seeing this 2 door with the hood up and music blasting with various tools in different spots really puts a smile on my face.

Did a regular tune up, spark plugs, wires, cap & rotor, coil and she fired stronger than ever.

    20200907_182920.jpg

Crawled beneath and dropped the drive shaft to chase a suspected ujoint click.

Turns out the first ujoint is bad but I'm going to go ahead and have them all replaced.

Next on the list is the transmission pan gasket.

you can swap a 2004r behind that pretty easy. also if you decided to go 350 or a bbb later it will bolt right to it. i love a 65. if i had money id have a 61 bubble top a 62 a 65 a 69 and my 72 lol.

im guess its a st300 that year right? you will want to at least swap your rear later on for a 3 series gear. i like a 3.23 cause i like the long legs. i think those have an a 8.2 so its not super strong so if you where building a big powerful motor i think you would need a whole different rear thats stronger. i think some impalas and pontiacs had 12 bolts thats a bolt in. 350 would a very easy swap on this car direct bolt in and could be built up decently fast. they had nailheads in 65 (i think only wildcats) but its alot money to swap in one and special parts plus a od trans requires and expensive adapter. bbb would be pretty simple too but you do need different mounts and few other odds and ends.

Yes sir, I'm prepping things for an eventual full blown street car build. That's if work dosen't slow down by the end of the year. This thread will get interesting soon enough.

Finally had time to drop the transmission cross member this weekend. I snapped 3 of the 4 bolts for the cross member. The 4th one was almost out when the square head on the bolt stripped so I sawed it down a bit and bashed it off.

    20200913_174700.jpg

When it was loose I couldn't snake it down and out so I thought what would any good mechanic do???

    20200913_182111.jpg

A few seconds with the Sawzall and it cooperated.

    20200913_182058.jpg

Initially I didn't intend to drop it after fighting it for so long. But I saw the grease and grim and figured I better clean it up now rather later when I do the swap.

I took a rag doused in degreaser and wiped down every inch I could get to. And continued to chizle away at the old grease.

I also scraped off most of the grease on the cross member and doused it in degreaser.

Next weekend im going to drop the transmission pan to replace the gasket.

I also dropped off the driveshaft yesterday at the shop thats going to rebuild it.

I spoke with the tech thats going to do the work and I feel like its in great hands.

Fantastic! Love seeing older iron (pre 73). Keep it original, maybe some 455 meatus under the hoodus. Really loving FOUR T-3 headlights too! +++++ ws

So I spent last Friday night dropping the transmission oil pan and cleaning it up.

    20200918_200535.jpg

Dosen't look too good but just need it to stay together for a while.

    20200918_202527.jpg

I also replaced the mount and discovered its the stock one. Going to be keeping it.

Unfortunately its still leaking, it's coming from the front of the transmission.

    20200919_121247.jpg

I also spent some more time cleaning the body of all the old grease and oil build up.

    20200919_114350.jpg

Driveshaft went in and I've had no issues with it. The shop that rebuilt it did an excellent job.

Now for some not so good news.

    20200919_185304.jpg

Discovered this crack while I was cleaning. Its on the rear arch that goes from side to side. The upper trailing arms bolt to it. I have a friend who says he can weld it.
