Update. My shop is pretty much done on the inside and I have all my crap in there finally. SUCH A RELIEVE to finally have a lift. That was a lifelong dream. So I am working on the 72. I pulled all the brake and fuel lines. I replaced the brake lines already. Since I have a 9in rear end I just did all lines myself. I also put in a new 9in brake booster and Master cyl. + a adjustable proportioning valve. Next thing is to put in a AC blockoff plate. And route the LS fuel line kit with the C5 fuel Regulator/Filter.
Engine. Trans (4l80e) are in . And I have to say the holley /hooker mounts and trans crossmember are a huge relief. They work perfect! Rather spend some $ and safe the headache. I blocked the firewall. Installed Speed engineering 1-7/8 long tubes they needed a bit of BFH massaging to clear the eng. Crossmember but that was easy. All in all I'm very happy. Further I installed a 20 gallon fuel cell with a 450 internal walbro pump. All new -6AN braided fuel lines, a c5 corvette style regulator and return. I am debating if I should use the standalone harness and flashed ECU or invest in a holley terminator x max. I know it's much easier to tune etc. But the costs would also cover my (probably vintage air ) AC setup I definitely need in this TX heat.
Use a factory computer and a Blackbear remote tune via data logs and emailed tunes. I’ve done 5 this way using the “auto cal” option.
I put in the headliner, package tray, rear door panels (mod. For the harness bar) I think it looks pretty good. This where used panels I got of a member on here. Also got the chromoly 7.400 pushrods in the mail and installed them right away incl. Rockers I modified the alternator bracket and deleted the power steering. I cut the bracket and added a pulley and used spacers and bushing to convert the 17mm hole to a 10mm. Got a 82.5 in belt for it & It lines up perfect with a couple additional shims.
Ohhh how I hate wiring. The car has a aftermarket fuse box and harness already. Unforthunaly I dont have the part# or manual of this harness but the wires are all color coded and labeled. I still hate it FML. So i organize it 1st. And loom it. I hate crappy wiring . I am by any means no pro. But i try my best So i also made a relay panel with 5 switch option. That fits perfect in the glove box.
Got the fenders and hood on. The hood clears even with the high intake, using all holley mounts. I slap a scoop on anyways
I hate wiring, probably because im not really good at it, lol. I was in the "zone" this weekend and knocked out the car harness (engine bay) + installed the standalone LS harness. Further I built a bracket/mount for the PCM,a battery bus bar & a relay panel ( in the glove box) that will be controlled by a 5 switch panel that has USB and 12v charge as well. I build a bracket for the radio opening since I plan on running a bluetooth amp. Only for the "radio". As a "dash" I am planning to use a 7" tablet . With a OBD2 app for the gauges.
Yeah, you can get some HP with a turbo. My son & his friend started with a 2014 LS 6.0 that started at about 380HP that had a cracked block my son fixed. EXCEPT for head studs, better head gaskets, his own ground cam to his specs. & valve springs using stock hydraulic lifters they are now at around 1300HP. Original rings, pistons, pins, con rods, all bearings, etc. etc. in a 3200pd. '91 Mustang have run a best of 7.77@178MPH. Docile enough to drive on the street, is registered & insured, has 3.23 gears & in street tune with street tires can get 20MPH. Not bad for a mostly, completely stock LS3. Tom T.
LS motors respond very good to boost and its nothing special to reach 1000hp with a 5.3 truck LS and Turbo(s) and it is very tempting. But i decided i want a NA LS and keep it reliable and "basic" my 68 GS is a Twin turbo sbb. My truck is a tuned F250 Powerstroke, so i have boost arround me Maybe i change my mind later for the lark but for now it will be NA.
I prepped and painted the hood. Incl. The stage 2 scoop. I decided to try the rostoleum + penetrol roll on method, I wanted to try that for a long time and the result is to me satisfying. A extra cut and buff and it came out decent.
I definitely want to drive it. It all depends on if the craziness is still arround. Power tour would be nice
I sealed the with PENETROL and let me tell you this stuff is awesome for a rat rod/patina build I wetsanded the whole car And applied penetrol with a sponge and let it dry 24hr. I did that 2x and it's like a clear paintjob + it seals the patina and levels it. I will wax it later when I pull it out. Trunk is painted buffed and installed. Got to get a new lock. I also cleaned buffed and painted the 70 rear bumper I had. It looks great I think. I also repaired and painted the 70 custom grill I had . It came out pretty ok I think. Now I got to get some hardware parts for the front bezels , bumper and grill install. Then I will finally order a B&M shifter. I want to mount that 1st before the seats. I learned my lesson on a previous project, in regards of seat carpet holes etc.
Damn nice build man! Congrats on the move out there and your own shop! Wow to have my own shop in back of the house! I'll keep dreaming. That **** ain't happening out in this expensive ass state! Can't wait to see your car finished. I'm still debating on going LS as well.
Trust me i know.. i love Cali but the cost of living is crazy. I was lucky with a good job offer in TX + the family was excited too. Its been my live dream as well. Thanks.
