Flint. Different buildings, as part of the entire Buick complex, used numbers to identify themselves. Factory 31 was where the Buick rear axles were built and then shipped to final assembly.

The frames and rear ends were given a quick spray dusting of GM Black paint.

The chassis were built upside down, and before they flipped them, a guy with a spray gun would quickly paint everything.

That is what I saw in Framingham in 1972.

    Coverage was mediocre at best.

Duane, Stage 1 /HD Cooling dual fan pully's were Gold Zinc / Gold Dichromate plated not Clear Zinc/ Silver zinc.

Alternator pully's were plated Clear Zinc.

In your post you compare a hood latch which is Gold Zinc/Gold Dichromate plated, no question I agree, however that metal is regular stamped steel and will plate brighter yellow than the metal of used to make the dual pully.

In short, different types of metals plated the same, will show a range of different plating color.

Attached are a few pics of the original dual fan pully from my 1970 GSX Stage 1 car, you can clearly see it is Gold Zinc/Gold dichromate plated.

    How about driveshaft stripes
What's the correct colors on a 70 GS
How did you paint them on a brush...mask off some lines then spray away? IMG_20200823_121218771_HDR.jpg

What engine/transmission/rear end combo? Don't you have your assembly manual yet? It's all in there, ya know.

    Sorry to bring this up......again.
At the last GS Nationals I had my car there for the first time. One of the deductions was for the Alternator double groove pulley color. I'd like to correct this before May show.
What is the correct color for a '71 Stage 1? Clear or Gold Zinc?
