I just wanted to share with all you guys that I bought a "big car" 808 quick ratio steering box from Tom t (teleriv) and installed it in my 69 Riv, what a difference it makes! If anyone is looking to improve the steering of your big boats do not hesitate buying one of these boxes from Tom it is money well spent! I will chaulk it up to a "must have" status right along side the JW 9.5 converter upgrade. Thanks a million Tom!!

    Cheers, Bob

You are VERY welcome Bob. Glad & happy everything worked out to your satisfaction.
Did it take care of the problem you had with the old box???

I took it out for a short drive last night and did alot of turning and corners to test it out and it's great. As for the " steering wheel shake" issue I had before that would happen when driving straight for a long period of time, I will take the car for a long drive this weekend and report back here with my results.

Tom, I took the car out for a nice long drive last night and the steering wheel shake issue is definitely gone! The culprit was definitely the old worn out steering box.

That's GOOD NEWS Bob!!!! Glad the old box was the problem & NOT something else.

How far back are these compatible? Is this something that would work on a 62? What are the benefits?

Some Full Size GM cars back to '59. I know the '61 Full size cars had their boxes on the outside of the frame. I believe '62 Full size cars had them on the inside which is what my boxes replace.
Much better steering responce, faster ratio at 2.5 turns lock-lock, almost makes the car steer like a newer car with rack & pinion, gets rid of the feeling of vauge steering where it seems you have little to no control.

So, in or outside the frame is the requirement? I'll check it out tomorrow.

My '59 box is inside the frame.
Unfortunately; in the case of installing headers...

It looks like my steering box is inside the frame. Is that all I need to know?

I wasn't sure about he '62 as I know my '61 is outside of the frame.
$450.00 + shipping costs & a core deposit. It's an "808" box EXACTLY the same as ALL big car boxes. Direct bolt-in. NO ADAPTERS or ANYTHING else needed.

    Kris,

I could probably have yours converted. I would have to ask. I'm sure it will cost about the same. Let me know.
