I just received from Cars, INC. washer hose with an extremely faint yellow stripe....the yellow stripe is almost not detectable. I cannot and will not use this hose. It`s just wrong. Who sells this hose with the correct Bright Yellow Stripe? I have seen plenty of restored 1970 Buicks with a Vibrant Yellow Stripe Washer Hose. Thanks
I believe they all come from the same manufacturer. The colour of the stripe on the last repro hose that I bought was closer to olive green than yellow. Needless to say, I did not use it. It was nothing like the picture on the website. Cheers
Agreed...I saved one from the parts car I have here and will use it on the convertible. I suppose you could always restripe it...but that would be kind of a PITA.
This is the frustrating part of any restoration.....you try your hardest to make it right, but things like this fight you along the way. It`s a part that takes less than 5 minutes to install.....but trying to find the exact correct part, with phone calls, emails, text....takes hours, days and weeks. With my integrity....these hours are the hours that are impossible to charge the customer. Now I will have to tell the customer....this is as good as it gets these days. I hate these words :-(
Dan, Before they were reproduced, a friend of mine made a couple of them by using one of those rollers the guys use to paint pinstripes on the cars. He put the hose between 2 strips of wood, so it stayed in one place and striped it. It came out really good. Just a thought if you had no other choice. Duane
No problem, Most guys do not know the extent we have to go thru to restore cars to a certain level, but it does get frustrating at times. If I remember correctly, my Bud cleaned the hoses up with lacquer thinner, let them dry for a few hours, and then striped them. Duane
I will do this....and give you a full report on how it turns out. As you well know.... it's all in the prep work. Thanks again Duane
Who knows, you might end up in the yellow striped hose business. Ya know the same type of thing did happen to me. Duane
Dan, If you want me to measure the width of the yellow stripe, I can do it later based on this OEM hose.
Brett, Very nice of you to do so.....this would be great....not only for me....but for all us Buick guys that want it correct as can be. Thank you very Much!
I found an old thread on this site last year in which a member (many years earlier) was selling old stock of both the over flow tank hose and the windshield wiper fluid hose. I found his phone number as well (he is getting up in years) and he had more of the hoses. I did not buy extra, but I bet I could find his name and contact info, if any of you need. I recall him being in PA - I think. It looks like you guys are onto a solution, but LMK if you want the contat info posted.
Well, 'dang'! I thought it would be harder to find the info, but nope. The guy's name is Frank and I contacted him via his daughter, I believe. I also bought a molded PCH hose. Here is the email response with his prices (from a little less than a year ago): Judith McIntyre <fjmcintyre@comcast.net> Sat, Sep 28, 2019, 4:02 PM to me Ken I found the hoses if you are interested. Yellow striped WSW hose $6.00. Overflow hose kit $12.00. PCH Hose $18.00. Shipping $8.00. $44.00 to your door. fjmcintyre@comcast.net is paypal.
The Chinesium hose is rubbish; don't waste your money. Totally amazing how much better a 50+ year old hose is.
