Phillip66. How much do you weigh and what have you taken off the car

Personally I weigh 205, the car was 3100 with me in it last time I weighed it. That was full of fuel and ready to run.

The car has a one piece fiberglass front end, fiberglass doors and a fiberglass deck lid, fiberglass bumpers too.
Steel roof and quarters and the full factory dash is still in the car.
Factory fuel tank is gone and there's an 8 gallon fuel cell mounted in the trunk.

It was a totally different world 15 years ago. You could find $100 blocks.
You could buy complete running and driving cars for a couple hundred bucks and harvest the parts off of it.

Be very hard to duplicate that build today....

I haven't been able to find many fiberglass parts for my 80 Cutlass. I weigh 235 and car is 3270 with me in it. Door panels, dash pad and bucket seats is all I have for interior. Engine bay is cleaned out. Manual brakes and steering. No inner fenders. No wiper motor, but I still have headlights and bumper w/absorbers. Maybe I should diet and take more stuff off car. Thanks for the info.

what I meant was I find it hard to believe that combo pushed a 3700 pound car into the nines . You’d have to be making over 700 hp ‍♂️That combo doesn’t sound like it is . I could be wrong I guess .

Sorry, I went in the wrong direction after reading your statement.:eek:

When you put it like that, it does sound hard to believe. But I'd have to say that if Bruce (BQUICK) said that's what he ran...that's what he ran. He's always super consistent, and he knows how to tune his car to the conditions while realizing every bit of potential. Must've been some really good flowing heads after porting too. Besides that, Cecil is known for being a fast track with normally excellent DA.

9.96 .....Yeah, it was a mineshaft day at Cecil and that was with 4.10 gears. (too many rpms ...6600-6700 thru traps) Now it has 3.73 gears but still manages 10 teens on a good day. Motor was built in 2003 (600+ runs) and never been out of car. 608B cam and stock rods. Crank cracked when internal balancing. I decided to roll the dice with it.
I am just as amazed as anyone else what it runs (or that it still runs....knock on wood). AMP Mike ported the heads but I made the mistake of telling him I drove it on the street and the numbers are not as good as I have seen others get....probably 20-30 cfm left......

Not hard to believe, my 67 weighs a little more, has stock rod short block, used Stage 2 SE heads, flat top pistons, and a Scott Brown flat tappet cam. Wildcat intake with a 800 Edelbrock (junk). Been 10.11@133. engine built in 05, still has same rings and bearings, ran 10.30s 2 weeks ago at 3000+ DA. Raced every years since in NMCA series and other races. Block is not filled, NO oil mods, stock pump, no plate, stock cam and main bearings. Friday night was testing other carburetors and after run, idling a 1k holds 30 psi oil pressure. Usually shift a 6k and runs near redline (6500)a finish line. 90% of racing is 1/4 mile.

Ken Montour's 3500 LBS 70 Stratomist Blue Stage 1 ran solid 9:80'S all day long at three different days at the track with a best of 9:75 ET as seen in his video. In full street trim, including full exhaust. And with working power brakes. The Iron short block is a 464" without a girdle, nothing complex about it, and has a roller cam. The 1970 factory IRON heads #1231786 are a different story. They are flowing 330 CFM, They were put in a welding furnace and heated until glowing red hot and then they were welded. And the Duane put in many hours of work reconfiguring them to get those flow numbers. One of the most powerful ALL IRON combos out there. The engine has since been removed from the car and we installed his new 530" T/A aluminum block engine with the 2X4 Dominators. Gary put up a picture of the new 530" in another thread. It is STILL going to be a STREET car and built around that format.

Junkyard 455 gap the rings, good heads, custom headers/exhaust manifolds, and a big turbo and start turning up the boost until your goal is reached. I would go turbo 400 and bullet proof drive train.

i try to run that on my TT 350, i am converting to EFI now.

i am building a 455 right now , i actually got a 70 Block ,crank, 430 big chamber heads, clean rods, pan etc for 100$
from a machine shop buddy who s customer dropped it off to do some work 3 years ago and never showed up again with $ to do the work.

So i am ALWAYS on a budget , i just did the oiling mods and i am ready to send the block out to get cleaned, decked 10.550 & bored 4.350.
I will look for a used set of Alu heads
but for now i will port the 430s and use stage 1 springs & valves. on stock rocker shaft assembly.
Wish me luck with the diy porting. Lol

And I consider to spray it 2-300 to possibly have the chance for some decent times.
