I recently purchased this carb, 7041540 MF 1161...numbers say its 71 800cfm 455 for automatics. My intent was for a 455 I am building at a snails pace... I was thinking of putting on my mildly built 72 350 motor with TA Stage 1 aluminium intake in the interim and get rid of the Holley. A) Do I have the correct gasket? It looks like there is a channel towards to front and see other gaskets that have this channel... although the last pic says its for a 65-69 qjet and doesn't look like the correct size for the channel anyway. B) my car is a 4 speed. Is there anything special I need to do? I know there are specific 4 speed carbs... don't care about looks just functionality, just need to know what to do to make it work to the best if it's ability. Thanks for any help.
That is not the correct gasket to mount that carburetor. Those are for early Chevy carbs used on factory iron intakes with the exhaust crossover "channel" under the carb. It was used with thin stainless steel gasket and designed to put exhaust gas (heat) directly on the carburetor. https://cliffshighperformance.com/Q...rajet-stainless-steel-heat-shield-with-gasket
Thanks Cliff, I appreciate the reply. The gasket I have is not the last pic in the last post but the i just attached in this post. I was just showing the one with the channel for reference (a pic i found on the internet). So is this the correct gasket? A heat shield is probably also a good idea... tbanks Any any thought about using this carb with a 4 speed as well?
Post a pic of the intake. I'm not familiar with aftermarket TA manifolds so not sure what gasket would work on them. For other aftermarket dual plane intakes we have several gaskets that will work fine. The 1971 and later carbs require a gasket with more material up front to effectively cover up the "U" shaped channel in the baseplate.....
Takes the same gasket as the Edelbrock Performer and Performer RPM intakes, I have them in stock...... https://cliffshighperformance.com/
Thanks Cliff. I can't seem to find the gasket. What is the part number so incan search your site. Also looking for a hear shield or keep the heat redeuced if possible. Thanks
Get the thick one, 1/4" Good for insulating the carburetor, https://quadrajetparts.com/quadrajet-base-gasket-thick-buick-1969-p-100.html OR, https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...4,fuel+&+air,carburetor+mounting+gasket,10024
Seriously, Rock Auto? To date I haven't seen anyone from Rock Auto helping anyone out on this Forum, or any other for that matter. IF you are going to spend money on parts at least support someone who kindly provides their valuable time on here to help folks having issues with this sort of thing....FWIW. Below is a link to the good one, non-stick and has the inserts to prevent over-tightening. I also offer 1/4" thick gaskets in at least 4 other varieties.......Cliff https://cliffshighperformance.com/Q...rajet-parts/quadrajet-flange-gasket-250-thick
Sorry Cliff I couldn't quickly find the gasket on your website, so I linked Gessler's site and rockauto.
That's OK Larry, we stock every single gasket currently available for the Q-jet just don't have all of them on the website. If you order the 1/4" thick one we have them available in 4 different configurations including one that works for all aftermarket aluminum intakes provided they have the spread bore flange on them. One can always call the shop if you don't know which one you need or custom application. The 1971-74 Buick carbs will also not work with most of the fully open gaskets as they create a vacuum leak where the baseplate is slotted to provide vacuum to the rear pull-off (most folks don't know this). For those carbs I recommend getting the 4 hole gasket and cutting out the center to match your intake with some tin-snips.......Cliff
Thanks, it will ship today. Anyone else experiencing "slow" Internet with nearly the entire Country at home "surfing" the NET all day long? Mine has slowed to a crawl here, at least past about 9am in the morning till pretty late at night......
It's clearly a by-product of too many folks on line. My computer is lightning fast from 5 am to about 9am, then starts slowing down and barely works at all till really late at night.......
