Ok, I have got the clutch fork all cleaned up and ready to replate, but need to know what it should be? I was thinking silver zinc, but can't find any good photographs to see. Anybody have an idea, or images of this?

    Thanks for the help!

Rust! The two BB forks Ive seen looked like they were never painted or plated. No trace of anything as if they put them in unpainted.

Maybe a clearcoat to inhibit the rust.

They are gray when new, probably Eastwood detail gray would be closest.

    Scott,

If you've got it cleaned up, wipe it down with some paint thinner/acetone and just clear coat it.

    Viola!

I did a phosphate coating on mine. I found some diy instructions. Came out well.

Ed I would be interested to know what this process is all about. I have done some plating of my own for zinc in the past withe excellent results.

I am not sure if this is the exact video that I referred to, but the process is the same. It has been a few years. I used phosphoric acid that was sold as rust remover and I got the manganese from non-alkaline D batteries.
