I am going to replace both motor mounts in my Electra and have been reading some older posts regarding the issues with replacement motor mounts not fitting correctly. Most of the posts were Riviera owners. Is there a difference between big car and Riviera mounts? Can I just order the ones from Rock or should I get the originals revulcanized?
Mark, thanks for your reply. I did check TA and under the listing for 430 their website states: Does NOT fit `67-`70 fullsize including Riviera or original `67 GS 400 models I ordered a pair from Rock so I will see if they are the same as the originals when they get here. Is there any one revulcanizing old motor mounts?
At one time Steele was doing that service. I am not sure if this includes your year model. https://www.steelerubber.com/search?q=Motor+mount+service
Jim, thanks for the info. I will have to give Steele a call. Also, I didn't realize I posted this in the Race 400/430/455 forum. Can you move it to the Street/Strip one? I might get more responses there. Thanks.
The '67 GS400 had specific one year only for that model motor mounts that are not available new. I'm not sure about the big cars. On the other hand last year I swapped out what appeared to be original '69 GS 400 motor mounts with Anchor mounts from Summit and they took some real screwing around to get them to fit. I'd try some Pioneer's or another brand if I had to do it again. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ani-2291
Of course, NOTHING is ever available for what your looking for Hope the Rock Auto mounts work, let us know
The ones on the Summit Racing link are *NOT* the correct mounts for the 430 Riviera motor. The bottom edges need to be sliced off in order to clear the frame. I had to look all over to find the correct pair to replace mine...both were busted & I'd just finished a round trip from the Bay Area to Colorado Springs.
The mounts I received from Rock have the 2 holes and I don’t think they are going to fit correctly. I have all the bolts out, but haven’t lifted the engine yet. I think I’m going to have to grind off the 1 hole. I checked the CARS website and they have the 2 hole mounts as well. Without a hoist, what is the best way to life the engine? Thanks in advance.
Hi Bill, thanks for your reply. The ones I received from Rock have 2 holes on each side. Once I get the old ones out, I’ll compare them to the new ones and go from there. Using the oil pan makes me nervous, but I have read other posts here where people did that. I plan on using a piece of 2”x 12” to spread out the weight, being careful of the drain plug. I have seen others using the balancer, but that seems like a lot of weight in one contact point.
So an update for all. The motor mounts from Rock Auto were the correct type. Part # A2291. My '67 Electra has the 2 holes on each flange and they matched up perfectly. Both were not in too bad of shape, but needed to be replaced. I used the sides of the oil pan, where it meets the block to jack up the engine. Had to remove the starter on the passenger side, but was much more stable that way. Now I'm onto the transmission pad. It is soaked in ATF and is practically crumbling. I will need to replace the CV and U-joints as well. Thanks to all who responded to my questions. They were a big help!
